TAFE provides an accessible, affordable and flexible solution
to your training and further education needs. From training
for your first job, updating your skills for a new job
or promotion, to starting study as a mature-aged student,
TAFE provides you with all the answers you need.
Developed with the needs of business and industry in mind,
TAFE courses provide current information on all the skills
you will need at work. With the world of work constantly
changing, TAFE courses also provide you with the ability
to update and extend your skills.
In addition, TAFE courses offer pathways and links between
qualifications and provide flexibility and recognition
when combining vocational training and academic study.
You can begin your studies at TAFE, obtain credit for
the work you've done and then apply for university admission.
Alternatively, many TAFE students have already completed
all or part of a university degree and look to TAFE to
gain vocational training to improve their employment prospects.
You may gain credit for subjects completed as part of
a university course, provided they are similar to what
is offered as part of the TAFE course you choose.

Reasons for Choosing TAFE:
- It gives you up to date training
TAFE courses are designed and updated with help from
employers, who may become your future managers, so they
are up-to-date and directly related to specific jobs
and careers. In addition, they equip you to meet the
changing demands of the workplace while allowing you
to get ahead in your career.
- TAFE Graduates Get Jobs
In a recent survey by the Australian Vocational Education
and Training Statistics, it was shown that 92% of TAFE
graduates in 2003 were employed or in further study
after their training. Because TAFE study is practical
and strongly tied to industry requirements, TAFE graduates
are seen by employers as having employable skills.
- TAFE Graduates are Satisfied with their TAFE
Study
The Australian Vocational Education and Training Statistics
survey also showed that 82% of TAFE graduates were satisfied
with the overall quality of their TAFE training and
74% reported that their training was highly or somewhat
relevant to their current job.
- The choices are endless
The variety of courses offered at TAFE are endless and
exciting - offered in over 40 different study areas,
from Animal Studies and Natural Resources, to Computing
and Information Systems or Transport.
- TAFE gets you ready for work
TAFE courses teach practical skills and knowledge so
that you perform well on your first day on the job.
If you are a school-leaver, TAFE courses can train you
for that important first job. For adults, TAFE can improve
and update your skills and increase your job choices.
- It's a great way to start your career
TAFE is an 'open-ended' way to gain qualifications and
to advance your career. TAFE courses offer flexibility
and recognition when combining vocational training and
academic study. You can begin your studies at TAFE,
obtain credit for the work you've done and then apply
for university admission. Alternatively, if you are
a university student, you may return to TAFE to gain
the vocational skills you need.
- TAFE won't cost you an arm and a leg!
As TAFE is free of the Higher Education Contribution
Scheme (HECS), you can avoid large up-front fees or
deferred debts. A tuition fee is charged by the TAFE
Institutes and charges may also be made for personal
use items such as tools of the trade, student services
fees and take-home goods. For students experiencing
difficulty with payment of tuition fees, student loans
are available at most TAFE Institutes. Concessions and
exemptions are available depending on eligibility.
