i got marked down last year for being to academic and not personal... how can i overcome this for hamlet?

Always write YOU think the text means. The meaning YOU got out of the text should be clearly evident from the very first sentence of your essay.
If you're really desperate, use the phrase 'my interpretation'. However, don't over-use it as markers don't like the use of personal pronouns in formal essays.

Instead of focusing on all interpretations of the text, find one and reinforce it. You can mention the others, but always show why yours is better. In doing this however, you have to ensure that your opinion aligns with the question.
