Hi, just wondering what ATAR I'm likely to get with my current marks and ranks. I am looking to get into medicine with a UCAT score of 2670 (chocked pretty badly under the pressure...), what are the chances of that given some all-around growth?

English Advanced
Trial: 81/100
Ranked: 29/51 (Trial was only 20% and that's where I started to pick up :/)

Mathematics Advanced
Trial: 93/100
Ranked: 2/36

Mathematics Extension I
Trial: 37/50
Ranked: 5/27

Studies of Religion I
Trial: 46/50
Ranked: 13/129

Physics
Trial: 86/100
Ranked: 2/18

Chemistry
Trial: 86/100
Ranked: 5/38

Biology
Trial: 80/100
Ranked: 5/62

School Rank: 131
Sat the CSSA trial exams

Thank you!

Based on rank and the fact the CSSA was beyond easy this year I would say 87-89. 92-94 if you smash externals

Unlucky. This is life. Chin up mate
just a question, where are your estimates coming from - seems pretty rash that you can estimate potential ATAR's based on hypothetic peformances in the externals. If I were to offer advice, it would be to try as hard as you can now, as what has been completed is done - the only thing you can help is your future performance, so an underwhelming ATAR estimate will not provide any tangible means to success. Keeping working, irrespective of what you think you can get, because I feel that if you don't work hard, there is no chance you can fulfil your goals, no matter how out of reach they may be.

The amount of Band 6's in the school and the rank, that's what gives the estimate

You are being stupid. We are saying that if he improves his marks he will increase to this but if he internal and external marks were the same he would get this mark. I am quite generous in my estimates....

I know people who got 1-2 band 6's and still got atars over 90. Yes, they probably got high band 5's for the rest of their courses but it isn't impossible. Just try your hardest and you will get what you get. Either way, life goes on...and you will move on even if you don't get the ATAR you want...

This is true but due to the fact Bio scaled like trash and English Adv tanks ATARS for fun, it would be unfair to give this poor kid false hope and make him think he get into a top tier uni for Med.

Low 90s and with a UCAT score like that, unfortunately it looks like your chances are under slim, but not impossible.

Mate this is BoS, get that common sense and logical reasoning outta here... Everyone here is an ATAR guru with 105% success rate and years of experience. It's also fairly common knowledge that there's a direct correlation between incessantly requesting ATAR estimates and improved performance in the HSC. It's been scientifically proven that it's even more effective and productive than actual studying. Besides, there's a lot of high quality advice that's constantly given. E.g. they might be able to get their desired mark if they do better in their externals. Incredibly insightful stuff.

It's 2019, get with the times. Geez.

/s (for those that can't tell and need it to be spelt out for them)

I am very experienced... I have been in year 12 for almost a year now thank you very much.

On a more serious note, what undergraduate degrees would you guys recommend as a backup so as to eventually do postgrad med? I currently have Bachelor of Cognitive and Brain Sciences combined with a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) at Macquarie which is 5 years, but I could switch the psychology component for a 4-year medical science degree if that is the wiser decision. I definitely want to get into medicine, no doubt about that, I guess I just decided to put the effort in a little bit too late, but in any case what are everyone's thoughts?

When you say "backup", do you mean like a literal backup in the event that you don't get into med? If that's the case, then pick something that you want to do. If it's just to help you get into and transition into medicine, then people usually go for a 3 year science degree (e.g. medical science). If your ultimate goal is med, you don't want to spend 5 yrs doing another degree if you can get away with 3. However, medical science itself doesn't have great job prospects, so if you're actually looking for a legitimate backup degree, then a proper 4 year degree would seem reasonable. The 5 year degree you suggested would be a strong backup, but you'd be delaying your med program for 2 more unnecessary years.

Also what raw marks do you guys think I would need for a low band 6 in English? I know the rank isn't doing me much justice, but I believe that the marks are fairly tight considering I was ranked 14/51 in the trial itself. Most marks lost were in paper 2 which is relatively easy to improve given that its the more quote/content-based paper, bar module c, so I think it should be doable to get my raw mark to the high 80's low 90's. So anyways what's the general consensus on what raw marks you need for band 6's all around?

Well, my ultimate goal is to get into medicine, however, I acknowledge that getting into postgrad medicine is still quite difficult, and so I am looking for a degree which would help me transition into medicine, but could also work as a standalone degree if I don't end up getting in. And as you've said medical science isn't in itself a good standalone degree, but if it would increase my chances of getting into medicine by a substantial amount then I would be willing to take the risk.

You should have a look at rawmarksinfo website (https://rawmarks.info/english/english-advanced/). Usually you need something between 80-85% (so if english is like before where it is out of 105 then you will have to get a little higher)
