    General Thoughts - Biology

Re: how did you go? The sizes of white blood cells and red blood cells were reversed. I knew the sizes of each, but I forgot which one was which, so I assumed they were correct. I had no idea what size a platelet was. But did you not notice the scale was 1 cm = 1mm, not 1 micrometer?

    General Thoughts - Food Technology

Re: so what you think about food technology exam? I do Food Technology, so don't think I'm bagging it out, but Food Technology is NOT a science subject (it's a technology subject), and it IS scaled down. It scales less than Standard English, General Mathematics and Biology. So don't accuse...

some of the wording in the exam...

Well I've read the question again and they have not specified what they were referring to. It just said "express this as a rate in millilitres per minute", referring to the 1 standard drink per hour point.

    I love BoS this year!

Because I went into the exam feeling so competent and walked out thinking "what the hell"? I have no idea how well I did because I don't feel like I answered any of the questions properly. It seemed like they were not addressing anything.

    Option: Communication

NOOOOOOO!!! Why did they ask about the ear? Everyone knowns the eye, not the ear. I forgot how to draw the ear, so I somewhat made it up and labelled it all. The labels were correct, but I realised I forgot the auditory nerve. I wish I did The Human Story in class, that option looked EASY. I...

    I love BoS this year!

I hated the exam. It was so vague and didn't focus on key topics. Nothing on B or T cells, DNA replication, evidence for evolution, et cetera. Questions comparing the size of cells, which was really annoying. I knew the sizes for RBC's and WBC's, but I forgot which one was which and I didn't...

    Section IV

I did four pages on the active non-nutrients one. I think I probably got 15. I wrote absolutely everything they could possibly ask for, including DHA, EPA, and ALA. However, I strongly disagree with the assertion that Omega 3's are "active non-nutrients". Actually, I strongly disagree with the...

some of the wording in the exam...

Wait. Was the alcohol question 0.2 or 3.4, or whatever that answer was? I said 0.2 because I assumed it meant alcohol per minute. They couldn't mark it wrong, could they?

    Section III

I did Food Manufacture. I prefer it because it is actually logical, where as I read FPD and it seems like a bunch of drivel that I just can't take seriously. I mean, the "4 P's", what the hell?

*bump* Food Tech Hsc Exam In 3 Days

I have a biology exam at 9:00 the next day too. It's terrible. Studying for Food Tech = Worst thing in the world.

What is the purpose of using T.Rex songs in Billy Elliot?

    Henry Lawson short stories poll

Joe Wilson's Courtship is the best story, but The Loaded Dog is the easiest to work with.

    How are they marked?

I heard they are marked 3 times and if the marks are spread out then they take a "special" look at it. There goes that theory then. I was hoping it was that way just in case the marker didn't get all the WWII references in my creative writing.

    Nitrogenous Base question

Thanks alot. That is what I originally had for the answer, but I was going off of nothing but intuition. I feel kind of silly now for not looking at it that way.

    Nitrogenous Base question

Question 20 of the 2007 HSC paper asked to complete a table by "identifying the other three base types and calculating the percentage of each base type in the section of double-stranded DNA". Bases: Percentage: Adenine 20 Thymine ? Guanine ? Cytosine ? Does...
