    ECOS2901 maths content

I did ECOS2903 and ECOS3901 at the same time, is this what you are doing? I didn't feel any disadvantage from doing this, it's really just the notation that may seem foreign, but you should be comfortable with it the actual maths. There are a couple 'proof' questions in the exam but ECOS2903...

    ECOS2901 maths content

Don't worry, I did ECOS2901 without doing ECOS2903 at the same time and I was not a maths major. Constrained and unconstrained maximisation will be taught within ECOS2901 itself (although obviously not to the extent that it is in ECOS2903). It is not hard, just simple partial differentiation...

Is a double degree worth it?

Yes obviously, that is why many choose the double. I don't think it matters too much what you do - if you just do the single Bachelors then take some econ/finance units and if you like those alot them you can pick up another degree. Likewise, if you do the double and don't enjoy the econ/finance...

Is a double degree worth it?

What do you intend on doing post-study? The double gives you more options, but theoretically it would be a waste if you were 100% certain you wanted to do post-grad and continue to academia.

    ECOS3903 vs ECOS3904

I did both in 2015 but had Kevin rather than Haley for 3903 so I'm not sure if the course would have changed. I would recommend doing both since you'll need 3903 if you intend on doing an applied microeconomics thesis and you'll need 3904 if you intend on doing an applied macroeconomics thesis...

Transfer from Economics to Commerce - it is worth?

The IPP is the main benefit of the BComm degree, so the question you need to ask yourself is whether you think that's worth an extra 6 months plus the loss of electives. In my opinion, it is certainly not worth the transfer, especially since there are now more opportunities for students in the...

Major in Financial Economics or major in Finance??

If you plan on doing Honours, then do an Economics major rather than either of those. You could do Honours in Econometrics or Finance, but they're worse programs on the Econ Honours one. If you do not intend on doing Honours (or any of the pre-Honours courses), then all else equal I would pick...

    Bachelor of Economics or no?

What do you want to do after uni? Best to start there and then work backwards.

    ECOS2201 vs ECOS3005

Yeah Don always does that - but you still get your raw mark (just with the possible 5 bonus marks included). For me there was actually scaling in ECMT2110/2150 as well - but that's not strictly a pre-Honours unit.

    ECOS2201 vs ECOS3005

I haven't taken either - but I doubt it would matter too much. Everyone who is capable of doing Honours that has taken econ electives has found them on the whole to be quite easy. Industrial Organisation is an Honours level subject as well (although obviously much harder at Honours level). So...

    Econometrics

If you're considering Honours in Economics, then do the minimum required Econometrics to do Honours (ECMT1020, ECMT2150 and ECOS3903/4) and leave it at that. I haven't done any stats so can't really comment further. However if an Econometrics subject has a stats/maths substitute, I would...

    Economics Pre-Honours/Honours

I didn't do any ECOS3000 level subjects because I did all of ECOS3901, 3902, 3903 and 3904. In terms of ECOS3000 level subjects I think they're all relatively easy compared to the Honours subjects but just avoid any subject taught by Don. For the pre-Honours units: ECOS3901 - Quite a...

    Economics Pre-Honours/Honours

I got 80+ without having done the maths pre-requisite. You'll be fine.

    Economics Pre-Honours/Honours

ECOS2901 isn't really a WAM killer - it's not too hard to get a distinction. So may be worth it to keep the Honours option open.

    Economics Pre-Honours/Honours

You need to do the pre-Honours units to do Honours at Usyd. You can still probably do Honours elsewhere without having done some of the pre-Honours subjects, but obviously some econometrics and calculus will be very useful for Honours at any university. You can join the pre-Honours stream in...
