My plan for year 11 next year was to rewrite my notes from school into a study book for these subjects and keep re-reading over those notes but I think reading notes is not retaining information.
Could you suggest how I could effectively study for these subjects which require a lot of memorising?

IMO notes are a waste of time. As said above doing past papers and exams are way better. You use more muscle memory when writing than reading. That's my opinion though.
