    Electrolysis - cleaning copper

Hey, I just found this written in my notes and I was fairly confused by it. Copper chloride is the main salt found when copper corrodes deep in the ocean. When copper is put as the cathode in an electrolytic cell, the following half equations happen: Oxidation: 2Cl----->Cl2...

    help on production of polyethylene

How could we possibly address this dot point without talking about them separately? They have completely different conditions and the chemistry involved is different as well.

How much does prelim get tested in the HSC?

I can't remember anything from year 11 chemistry, we had a teacher who just sat up the front of the class while we did whatever we wanted. Then in year 12 I came top of the year, showing that all the year 11 stuff you need should have probably been covered during the year 12 course, even though...

    Year 12 Assessment . .

A better one to link with esters is probably the condensation polymerisation dot point because then you could talk about polyesters as well.

    band 6 cut off

Its not scaling at all. Its called either aligning or moderating (can't remember which is which). Scaling happens after and we don't get to find out our scaled mark. I think the band 6 cutoff was about 85.

    Excited about chemistry

They need to have a long enough test to test most aspects of the syllabus. The 3 hours gives you time to plan and clearly address the questions.

    Find the mass calculations?

They could mark you down for rounding off early in your answer, but never for not rounding off and using the same number in the calculator. These questions are really pretty easy and the procedure like_ma_style used works every time.

What advice can year 12 pass on to year 11?

In science, make syllabus summaries while you're doing the work, not when you're nearing the tests. Make sure you cover every dot point in the syallabus: this practically assures you will have all the information you need for the test. Also, don't stay up till 1 AM in the middle of the HSC...

    Comments on the questions asked

Is it just me, or is 7(b) of this exam similar to a couple of questions in 4U? They seem to have concentrated on the number of roots rather than asking for exact values in these types of questions.

    Guess Your Raw Mark

I'm pretty sure I got 83 too. I came 3rd in my school in internal ranking though so i almost definately won't be in the top 10.

Sry for picking out mistakes mate, but there's another one in question 7a (i) dr/d(alpha)=0.5*2050sec....... You made a minor mistake in differentiation.

    Solutions

40.82 is right. Phoenix just made a typo there i think.

    Q3(a) WTF!!!!

Now I'm feeling better about it. Thanks for that. Halving the interval is such a crappy technique because of this.
  14. thunderdax

    Q3(a) WTF!!!!

OK, who else was confused with question 3 a (ii)? Halving the interval gives 0.8, but if you halve the interval again then it becomes obvious that 0.7 is a closer approximation than 0.8... Is this the right way to do it or should I have just said 0.8?

I wrote my answers for Q6+7 in the book. Here they are: 6a)ii) 0.01 iii) 0.92 b) i) 7041m, forgot to write time. ii) 40.82<t<55.76 iii) 49.72 7ai) 102.59m ii) 20.53m/hr. and (b) was all show thats.

    How was the exam?

I thought it was a fairly easy 3u paper. The dodginess of the diagram in Q7 tricked me at first but it wasn't as hard as it looked. Answered all of the questions, prob looking at about 80/84.

    Good Luck All!

I hope y'all do well, especially those who do 4unit :D. I want awesome scaling for the 4unit course.

Operation Scalvaging marks out of 3u

I'd study up on Apps of calculus to the physical world and logarithms if I were you. There are always shitloads of marks on those 2 topics. You might also want to take a quick look at the basics to get Questions 1 and 2.
  19. thunderdax

    what topic scares you?

I hate 3D trigonometry. For some reason I always make a stupid mistake in the working out part or i punch it into my calculator wrong. Also a tad worried about projectiles.

Solution of Maths Extension 2 paper

Damm, forgot to times the probability answer by 2. Ah well, still pretty happy with how it went.
