if someone could explain how to use the coverup rule for 4u partial frac would be appreciated

Agreed but mainly for linear factors to avoid likelihood of error. But you are probably a pro at it so disregard haha. Otherwise multiplying through does the same trick and only is an extra line of working.

if someone could explain how to use the coverup rule for 4u partial frac would be appreciated

The cover up method effectively you are treating x as a parameter to find A and B. \frac{1}{(x+3)(2x+1)} = \frac{A}{(x+3)} + \frac{B}{(2x+1)} Basically if you times both sides by the denominator you get: 1 =A(2x+1) + B(x+3) So you can pick such an x so that 2x+1 = 0 (x=1/2), and another x such...

    confused with this q

    It could well be an advanced Year 10 question (or Year 11) but certainly not the kind you'd be tested on unless you are at like a selective HS: It could be done by substituting: a = A^2, b=2B^2 f(A,B)= a^2+b^2 f(A,B)= a^2+b^2+2ab - 2ab f(A,B)= (a+b)^2 - 2ab f(A,B)= (A^2+2B^2)^2 - 4A^2B^2 And...
