You *know* you're a chemistry nerd when...

When you sing through chemistry covers of bohemian rhapsody ... what? It is hilarious! http://www.geocities.com/le_chatelier_uk/acid_bo-rap.html

You *know* you're a chemistry nerd when...

When your opinion of a song dramatically increases because it has chemistry of some form in it.

    Gal Pos-cat Neg-an!!!!!!!

I remember; oxidation and anode --> start with vowels reduction and cathode --> start with consonants and reduction and oxidation in terms of oxidation number.

    Chemical Bonding Help

:chainsaw: It is purely that ethane is more of a fat bastard molecule than ethene. Reactivity ... nice one :D:D:D

hANDS UP IF U AGREE sHIpWRECKs sUCKS

If there is something in particular I would advise you to post it... Otherwise if you want specific concepts in more detail I suggest going to a university library and checking out Atkin's Physical Chemistry (USE THE INDEX!!! IT IS A MONSTER), though be warned that it isn't safe to read too...

    Spectral Lines Website

... is it really? I think that is unique to atomic spectroscopy, most of the time you'd be worried if you had 'lines'.

    hydrocarbons

The functional assignments are too high. Naming rules say that unneccessarily high or unneccessary functional assignments are wrong. a) propyne HC:::C:CH3 2-propyne = 1-propyne = propyne simplest name is propyne; so that's the correct answer. I'll let you work out the rest...

    Water...im confused

Water's shape is to do with hybridisation of orbitals and electron pair repulsions. To sum it up: Water is a bent molecule because the lone pairs of oxygen occupy orbitals in the same fashion as bonding electrons. The four occupied valence orbitals repel each other as they are occupied by...

Timmy's "Studying for Chemisty" is basically crap/wrong

Yeah except I haven't seen him on BoS since he went to Singapore :( I think he is too busy worrying about organic chemistry (yes, I will start studying tomorrow ... ). You sound almost patronising ... that is it; we'll have to talk some about you behind your back when I see him tomorrow.

    Percentage of Sulfate in Fertlizer

Did you use a hirsch funnel first? Was it a reduced pressure dessicator? Argh, do a MP test for purity before mocking the awesome powers of the silica!!! OK, admitedly it took 2 weeks to dry 6 grams of acetanilide, but I wouldn't have thought barium sulphate was THAT resilient... On second...

    quick question prelim

Well a molecule might have several polar bonds and some of that cancels each other out. A net dipole is one vector indicating the resultant dipole of all the other dipoles.

    Alleviate the problems

I'd settle for nothing short of a .edu domain or pdf with a disclosed author (preferably with a doctorate, but beggars can't be choosers).

You *know* you're a chemistry nerd when...

And with regard to the peaks themselves; If you could analyse each peak individually you would have 4 aromatic peaks each intergrating for 1, two of which are doublets and two of which are singlets. Also the downfield peak of CH3 integrating for 3 and the OH integrating for 1, both singlets...
