How much to write in 40 minutes? (The 3 Modules Essays)

do some practice runs, you just need to try your best to handle timed conditions. If you find that no matter what you do you still can't finish a full essay in 40 minutes just decrease the word count to about 600-700.

    Changing Related Text after trials

If you don't want to change texts that's perfectly fine, just clarify with your teacher what she doesn't like about the extra text and see if you can fix that. If not, and you believe her comments then I guess change texts and see how it goes. The marking criteria internally and externally for...

    English Confusion

Write practice essays and beg people to look at them and get some feedback, even asking the smarter kids in your grade to look at it might be a good idea.

Anyone knows William Golding's novel 'Lord of the Flies'??

I mean what's great about that choice of text is that they are both on an island and you can use this as a nice comparison point. Other than that you're focussing on discovery so for example look to the self-discovery of the kids vs Prospero.

Ideas on what i need outline in School Captain Speech

Never done a school captain speech myself but if I was about to elect someone I hope they knew what they would be getting into and what makes them the best for that position. Just do your research and include details in your speech, being inspirational is good but remember it's probably the...

    English Advanced Practice Paper Help

structure it like a mini-essay, that part of section one is known as the extended response simply: 1-2 sentence intro (answer question + state what texts you want to use) Body 1 - text 1 Body 2 - Text 2 Conclusion (1-2 lines)

    What Film Technique?

You could use - framing in terms of how you see the image through a 'lens' and this emphasises some sort of emotion or idea. - vectors in terms of how your eyes are drawn to the image through the keyhole - foreground, background to describe the 2 images you see. Those are just a few.

What will happen if I don't do as well for the hsc?

Well to be honest the most likely result is that you still end up studying a decent amount and in the exam room you do put in the effort to complete it to the best of your ability. The only thing you're doing though is possibly opening up a can of worms when you get your HSC results back and you...

    Year 11 subject selection

Nothing wrong with doing 14 units, only thing is that your 10 best units will count so your effectively putting in a lot of study to subjects that may not even affect your HSC if your performing really well for 10 units already. It might not mean much now but when you get your HSC results and...

What's the deal with the new reference sheet?

Well I suppose if you knew your integrations topic well enough it wouldn't be that bad of a change. I don't recall any news about them removing the standard integral sheet at the back of the exams papers but if this is true then you're most likely right.

    English Ext 1

scales pretty good as far as I know. I just had a good rant on another thread though about my extension mark not counting so just make sure if you got other high scaling subjects (economics for example) you end up going really well for your ext if you want it to count (considering you do more...

Can BOSTES (and my school) choose the texts i do for paper 2?

Funny story you can actually do whatever text you want in the HSC. Your school picks certain prescribed texts that you should DEFINITELY do for your exams but nothing is stopping you from picking any of the random prescribed texts to write an essay on. I don't recommend going against your...

What is the word count for an acceptable English essay?

You should expect 2 word counts, one for the HSC (40 minutes each essay) and internal exams (50 minutes). For 40 minutes, 800-900 words is extremely comfortable as you're going to have to write 3 of them in 2 hours. For 50 minutes, 900-1100 words could do but you'd have to still practice. I'd...

    Year 11 subject selection

I don't recommend doing 14 units in Year 11, probably stick to 12 units in Year 11 and then consider dropping down to 10 units in Year 12. If you do end up wanting to do extension units then that's a different story altogether.

Standard v. Advanced English for an 80+ ATAR?

I recommend Advanced, who knows you might actually end up going really well and scoring 90+
  17. M

Still possible to get a good atar if you stuffed up internals?

Possibly, even though ranking poorly is definitely not favourable you could end up smashing the HSC and scoring a decent mark. If you usually score 75% on relatively easy exams and you rank poorly and you end up scoring 95% in the HSC you will most definitely have a better shot at getting a...

    Question regarding past papers

If you're doing humanitarian subjects and you want to practice then sure dot points are a valid way of ensuring you cover the main points without wasting too much time trying to make it sound nice. However, it's probably a good idea to do some exams under timed conditions if you really want to...

    Discovery Creative Writing Help

Honestly, for future reference it's silly to copy a creative word for word as the exams are becoming really specific and it's becoming increasingly difficult to use a creative word for word. You should encourage him to learn discovery and write his own, tell him he can be inspired by the...

Probably look at St Crispin's Day Speech, I think I had a similar question back in Year 10 and I used that.
