HSC Chemistry SOLUTIONS / Thoughts / Predictions

As said in the main post: If anyone gets access to the paper after the exam from a friend or a teacher, please send it to me. I will write up full answers to the exam the same day I receive the paper :)

Beer Lambert's Law- Is this even in the syllabus?

Yes you need to know it. The formula is actually on the data sheet and so is definitely in the syllabus

If you want to extrapolate do it in dotted lines instead

BoS trials Maths and Chemistry 2020

It will mostly absorb due to the strontium however you need to understand that in real life it is not as simple as that because there can be other sources of error that lead to it not being 0. In real life you would actually take a blank measurement and then subtract that off everything and then...

BoS trials Maths and Chemistry 2020

I understand what your teacher is saying but that is not a good argument or reason in my opinion to draw a (0,0) data point. What your teacher is saying is not always true as not all solutions have 0 absorbance for 0 concentration. This is because if you are analysing something that is in the...

BoS trials Maths and Chemistry 2020

This is wrong to do. What your teacher is stating does not apply to this question as no data point for the 0 concentration has been provided. Can you please state what past papers as I have not seen any HSC papers stating this. Because the whole purpose of drawing a graph is to draw a trend. We...

    need chem help quik.!

liquid - nothing is this for an ionic compound aq - not on the Ksp data sheet (most of the time) s - on the Ksp data sheet (most of the time) But if you want to be sure you will just have to memorise the solubility rules

I didn't realise there was allocated sections to write everything in.

It is natural to worry given you have just spent a year studying for this one exam. But try not to stress too much. If it makes you feel better contact NESA but as I said above if they detect it they will mark your answer (it's not like you wrote it in the wrong place and they won't mark it)

I didn't realise there was allocated sections to write everything in.

You will be fine lots of students make these kind of mistakes and it will probably be picked up on. If you get your mark back and you think there is a discrepancy then go for the results check that NESA offers after HSC marks are out

HSC Chemistry SOLUTIONS / Thoughts / Predictions

A condensation polymer forms via water being eliminated This means if you want to draw from 2 monomers to a polymer we have to remove the water Basically take off the OH on the left structure on both sides Take off the H from the NH2 on the right structure on both sides That in total means...

HSC Chemistry SOLUTIONS / Thoughts / Predictions

The questions are not too complicated. If you have a good approach and spend time on a couple of questions you will see they become very repetitive Addition polymers example: 1. Move all bonds not involved in double bond to the vertical position 2. Redraw the structure 3 times without...

HSC Chemistry SOLUTIONS / Thoughts / Predictions

Yeah I have had a brief look at the exams as well. They are okay but in terms of preparing you for HSC style questions not so much as you can't just drag and drop in the HSC.

Structure A is 2,2-dimethylpropanal Structure B is 2,2-dimethylpropanoic acid Reactivity ==> A is an aldehyde or primary alcohol as it is oxidised to produce B which is a carboxylic acid as it gives off CO2 when Na2CO3 is added. IR ==> Strong sharp peak at 1700 cm^-1 is a C=O, peaks at 3000...

HSC Chemistry SOLUTIONS / Thoughts / Predictions

These are my predictions based on things that have been in the 2020 trials and stuff that wasn't in 2019 hsc: - esterifcation some kind of stuff asking about the prac. Could be possibly a long response kind of question. I doubt they will make it like the sample questions where it was just...

HSC Chemistry SOLUTIONS / Thoughts / Predictions

There are a couple on the THSC website. I also wrote the BOS chemistry exam which you can find here: https://boredofstudies.org/threads/bos-trials-maths-and-chemistry-2020.392093/post-7346067 Other than that you can find some exams on some sites like Peak Education...

HSC Chemistry SOLUTIONS / Thoughts / Predictions

Spam papers for days like if you got that many days free you should be able to do like 10 exam papers in that time if not more. You should also have answers prepared to certain memorising based dot points. For example in chemistry things like soaps and polymers you can just memorise a good...

    Is Tutoring really necessary

It's kind of really dependent on what you are looking to get out of tutoring The main thing people don't understand is that tutoring doesn't automatically mean good marks. You go to tutoring for maybe 1 to 3 hours per week for a subject so it is more based on do you make best use of the...

HSC Chemistry SOLUTIONS / Thoughts / Predictions

It is based on the HSC mark which is the avg of internal and external. A state rank for a 5th rank is extremely difficult to obtain as your internal mark will be lower even if you perform highly in the external. This would only really be possible at a school where the marks are very close i.e...
