re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive Eddy currents are formed as an application of Lenz's law, wherein circular currents are induced in sheets of metal due to a change in flux. According to Lenz's law, the eddy currents would provide a magnetic field that opposes the initial motion of the...

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive Ahh yes thank you. I forgot about the AC induction, those wouldn't have any back EMF.

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive Lenz's law states that a relative movement of a conductor in a magnetic field induces an EMF that creates a magnetic field opposing the initial change in flux. (formula) This is consistent with the conservation of energy as the induced current acts against the...

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive Alright Solid state drives are transistor based technology which uses the semiconductors as its basis of operation. By providing current, circuits can be switched on and off to store and manipulate large amounts of data. Thermionic devices uses the property of...

Re: HSC 2015 3U Marathon From part 2 we know that 1/n! < 1/e^n but this only occurs at n is bigger or equal to 6. So when you replace n in the above inequality with 6,7,8,9... etc, this will give you the relationship on the left, plus the first 5 terms which is smaller than those on the right...

Remember Faraday's law which states that relative movement of a conductor in a magnetic field results in induced EMF. Lenz's law further refines this by stating that the induced EMF produces a magnetic field that opposes the initial change in flux. Thus as a motor is spinning, the coils in the...

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive A magnet is hovering above a superconducting disk. Explain why the magnet is able to hover above the superconductor. (3) Is Lenz's law relevant here. My teacher and my friends (tutoring) have always told me that the Meissner effect is a completely separate...
