    Pure vs. Applied Mathematics.

I think you are confusing the real number system (which does not contain infinitesimals) and the hyperreal number system (which does). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperreals

    Rational roots of a polynomial

Apparently it is called the Rational Root Theorem. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rational_root_theorem

    Complex numbers help.

I think you'd better go and revise your special quads. Or actually read all that I have written in that post. A rhombus is both a parallelogram and a kite.

    Teaching in uni anyone ?

Yes, well, I am sure that working for peanuts and letting people treat you like dirt is really going to raise the status of the profession. To the OP, I just think that the teacher training scholarships offer too little in return for too great a commitment. Particularly when you consider that...

Re: University of New South Wales OR Notre Dame UNSW probably has quite a good drama program, I think. (There are lots of NIDA people there, that is why I think this.) The School of Ed is definitely sub-par, though. But as I said previously, there is nothing to stop you doing your BA in drama...

    What you hate about UNSW

Doesn't it go along High Street?

    Complex numbers help.

Well, it is a parallelogram, of course. One of the diagonals is z+w, the other is z-w translated a bit. So, the fact that z-w = 2i(z+w) means that the two diagonals cross each other at right angles and one is twice the length of the other, as multiplication by a complex number corresponds to...

The relevance of marks after you graduate

Marks are certainly important, at least initially. After a few years, employers are more interested in what experience you have (in particular, your experience at teaching extension subjects in senior high school.) But good marks will help you to get the initial interview. If you are looking...

    Euler's Formula

Transcendental functions like sine, cos and exp can be expressed as a Taylor series. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_series I believe Euler proved the formula by showing that the Taylor series of both sides of that equation are equal.

could i teach myself 4unit from the textbook?

    Try the substitution u=cos x

Do you know about Taylor series?

    Uni mathematics

All I can say is that you'd better be prepared to do alot of extra work. I am sure it is not impossible, though. It might depend on what level of uni maths you are planning to take.

    Uni mathematics

Yes, I can give you a good example. Go and learn the correct way to calculate an IQR and compare with how you were taught in general maths. You will find that what you were taught is wrong. I did not take general maths in school. Read my post. I said that I have taught it. At school, as a...

    Maximisation and Minimisation Problem

Actually, you don't have to worry about implicit differentiation. This curve is obviously symmetric in both x and y, so you really only have to figure out what is happening in the first quadrant. Also, it is probably easier to maximize the square of the distance, rather than the distance...

    Uni mathematics

I taught General maths stats this year and at least half of it is wrong. The calculus learned in 2 unit would be far more helpful for learning stats at uni. BTW, I wouldn't get into an argument with Affinity about statistics - he is an actuary.

    They have a TSP?

    Uni mathematics

Assumed knowledge is not the same as a pre-requisite. They will let you into a degree at uni without the assumed knowledge, but the assumed knowledge will not be taught in that course. Which means that you have to fill in the gaps yourself somehow.

Need help with choosing uni for teaching!!!

Re: University of New South Wales OR Notre Dame I think you can get CSP places for some courses at Notre Dame (things like teaching and nursing). You can always do the BA at one uni and the teaching qualification somewhere else. You don't have to do both degrees at the same uni.

That was a nice question, 3unitz. I am sure I will be able to put it to evil uses some day.

Masters of Teaching is not a real masters degree. (UAC considers it the same as a bachelors degree for the purposes of admitting people into post-graduate degrees.) It is pretty much the same as the old dip.e.d, it just takes longer (in some cases). So no, it is not really any better than a...
