I can prove that God doesn't exist just as well as I can prove the tooth fairy doesn't, I don't believe in the tooth fairy so I'd be a hypocrit to believe in God. They're reproducable i.e. pilots often experience them. We understand what these experiences are pretty well using natural science...

The reasoning behind claiming that both are equal claims should be pretty obvious, but I've yet to see yours to explain why it is that because I honestly believe in something supernatural it's more likely to be true than something supernatural I've just made up? I need more than 'to my mind'...

It doesn't matter why I did so or whether I honestly believe it. Whatever bullshit I come up with, even if it's just to prove my own point and I don't believe it, is still equally as good as something that you found out through vigorous research and honestly believe.

Another problem is that if you're simply believing in order to reap some reward, according to most religions I imagine God won't be happy.

Read what I wrote please. I am well aware that I can not prove with 100% accuracy that god does not exist. I merely noted that I can prove god does not exist JUST AS WELL as anyone else (including myself) can prove that any other supernatural being/object exists.

Well for me the absence of proof for the existance of anything is good enough to believe it doesn't exist, I think this is true of other people also, just not when it comes to God.

Actually, some atheists (like me) don't feel the need to explain where the universe came from... So don't imagine that all atheists think the universe just 'magically popped out of nowhere'. Atheists whom do have some feeling about where the universe came from will also try to use naturalist...
