From what I know, they're legally bound to keep everything confidential unless they worry that you are at risk of harming yourself (eg are suicidal). Even then, I think that if you show that you're very open to treatment/will come in for regular checkups, you'll be ok :) So that aside...

Because a lot of 100-level courses are prerequisites for 200-level courses :D Or, you have something like "6cp" or "12cp", ie you have to have passed a certain number of units as a prerequisite. Even with this rule, sometimes you can start 200-level units in second semester of first year :)

The best thing is actually to NOT do a 'common' related text or an HSC text. A lot of teachers say that you're not allowed to do the latter for reasons including ones I mentioned above, and you will have issues with the "common" ones because as so many people are doing it, it becomes harder...
