Couldn't you get the drivers for your network adapter manually from another computer, install that, get connected to the net and then windows will dl all other drivers

why don't you use it in Windows XP mode? Its a feature in windows 7 where you can run XP as a virtual OS in cases where software is not compatible with 7

That's a no go. The HDMI port on your laptop will be output (for connecting to external displays only), not input. You may need additional hardware (perhaps an AV capture card or something, not too sure). Anyway, I'd say your best bet it to buy a cheap LCD screen for $200-300
