What do HSC Markers look for in Creative Writing?

Just like markers look for techniques (and how well you analyse them) in essays, they also look for techniques (and how well you use them) in creatives.

Need help with year 12 subject selections!!!!!!

I did 12 units (all of your subjects except SOR..) and I did ok. Just time management and not procrastinating too much... For your hsc, you can just bludge SOR and not care about it if you have to. Oh, and I'd probably keep all your subjects till after 1st round of hsc exams. Then decide which...

    Capable of 4u ?

Those are pretty good marks. Highly recommend doing 4u :D (srsly, I don't know why people who could do 4u don't do 4u - it's free ATAR lol.)

Extension 2 English vs. Extension 2 Maths?

MX2 will most certainly count more towards to your atar than english unless you're an absolute gunner at english (or if your maths is that much worse than english...). I definitely recommend mx2 and 4u eng if you would like. You're prob better off dropping another subject (like modern) so you...

How to estimate your own ATAR (more accurate for high performers)

Great post :D Exactly how I calculate estimates for friends and others. Should note that the HSC exam is a bit harder than the trial exam (marking wise and difficulty wise) so you might want to decrease your trial marks by a bit in compensation.

How do you memorise tens of thousands of words of notes?

Lol, my notes were 100-200 pages long (all text) - each sub. Key is to understand rather than straight up memorise :)

    Preparing for econ essays

Predict this year's essay topics and prepare for these topics all out (i.e. going through all the past essay questions + syllabus on those topics and ensuring that you know your stuff + know how to structure an essay well enough to score full marks) Someone on BOS should post their predictions...

    Mathematics for engineering

Some of these comments are brutal... I guess the onus is on OP to study prelim + hsc 2U/3U and maybe 4U all out after HSC? :) Not all topics in 2/3/4u are used in engineering though, I believe.

Chances of making into Hurlstone Ag (Currently year 9)

More like 30+ for 3/4u and 22 for 2u, lol. It is kind of unbalanced if you think about it (especially considering this is before scaling...) but to be fair, only the most capable do 4u anyway - and for that reason, they are prob more likely to get e4. (much like how 20-30% ppl get e4 in EE1/EE2)

Do you study on the weekends?

The amount of work I did on a saturday or sunday was at least double the amount of work I did on any weekday

    Can't decide what to drop!!!

There have been people who state ranked bio and yet it didn't count in their top 10 units (they did the mx2-chem-phys combo). Do note though, that these people scored atars close to (or got) 99.95. Only reason you'd keep bio is if it's better than chem/phys. Also, definitely do MX2. It's pretty...

    Can't decide what to drop!!!

Drop bio. The scaling isn't worth it. I have a feeling that in the end you'll be one of those people who gets the band 6 (or state rank) that wasn't even counted. Yea, you can argue based on which subject you like but it seems like you're doing well in all... Bio ties in a lot with medicine, but...

    UMAT 2015 Discussion Thread

You seem pretty set for UMAT. If you got through everything in time (without guessing every question), you probably did better than most people... (and be competitive for med umat wise :D)

    UMAT 2015 Discussion Thread

I'm very curious to see what type of questions there are since pick the middles were like my fav lol. Also, I think nevertheless doing medentry would still help - the point of doing them is to develop the ability to see patterns and coming up with a way to solve questions on the spot (and not to...

    UMAT 2015 Discussion Thread

Ah, makes sense. I wonder how it would work since you're not a school leaver (esp. curious with regard to my uni - it's a pass/fail system with no GPA haha - not that I'd consider doing that stressful exam all over again). (sorry for derailing btw... I'll stop)

But you can repeat the year, can't you? (would mean you graduate in 6 years rather than 5 - but redoing UMAT doesn't seem to make that better either, lol).
