    Impact on society

Not mention the technoligical advances made in the race for the stars eg velcro - where would we be without velcro? Though, mentioning religion... I'd be careful there. There is still a lot of debate about whether what we see through a telescope either confirms or denies the origins of the...

    millikan's experiment

Millikan measured the terminal velocity of the oil drop when it fell under only the influence of gravity. Then he used an oil of known density. Fluid mechanics was then brought in. You don't need to know this, but it may help in your understanding. It is proably enough to say, "using fluid...

    inverse trig

    ¹ = alt 0185 º = alt 0186 ± = alt 0177 ² = alt 0178 ³ = alt 0179 ¼ = alt 0188 ½ = alt 0189 ¾ = alt 0190 ÷ = alt 0247 Is that what you meant? Things like greek letters and integral signs do not have "alt" codes.

    problem with the dopper effect

Re: problem with the dopper effect II It all depends on whether your body is moving with constant velocity or not. If it is travelling with constant velocity then there wavelengths are constant - bunched up at the front and spread out at the back. If the body is acclerating then the wave...

    millikan's experiment

Millikan was using charged particles of oil not just single electrons. Sometimes the oil would gain a charge of 1e- and sometimes more(2e-, 5e- etc) , but he always found the charge to be a multiple of the charge on an electron. Therefore Millikan realised that the common factor between all...

    2006 Major Work Critique thread

Hi there. Serious writer here (not yet professional). Have done a mentorship with a published author and working on novels for publication. If anyone needs stories read, I am willing to critique. PM me.

interference and diffraction - braggs experiment

That all looks about right. Does it makes sense to you, because I think you described it nicely?

    Other girls doing Engineering Studies?

Believe it or not, females bring a new perspective to engineering (and really nice, flowery note books - j/k). My best friend from Uni is one of a few top female engineering executives in the country earning good money. But, yeah why not? Men become nurses. Why stereotype certain professions...

    [Jacaranda]: Relativity of Simultaneity

Mustafa, I'm trying to figure out how the picture in Jacaranda works. It seems screwy to me. Have a look at this website. It make smore sense here. http://www.bun.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~suchii/Einstein/rel.TS.html The flashes are outside the trains and simultaneous. So, to the outside observer, they...

interference and diffraction - braggs experiment

OOPS, my mistake. Here we are in the Ideas to Implementation thread and I'm doing Q to Q. I guess mention dope at this point would be appropriate. OK, so the syllabus dot point is: "outline the methods used by the Braggs to determine crystal structure" outline = sketch in general terms...

interference and diffraction - braggs experiment

Well, the HSC syllabus dot point says: "define diffraction and identify that intereference occurs between waves that have been diffracted." The HSC Supporting document says about these verbs: define - state meaning and identify essential qualities identify - recognise and name HSC Online...

    Horizontal Motion

Good one. Knew there had to be an easier way. ;) But we both got there in the end.

    Horizontal Motion

This is tricky. It has taken me all morning! Right. The key words here are "acceleration 't' seconds after the start is a(1 - t/b) until it has attained maximum velocity" So, at time t=b, the car reaches its maximum velocity and continues on at that velocity. Maximum velocity = ab/2 m.s...

    Model of Household Circuits

Hi bfpumpkin If you have Jacaranda Physics 1, there is a great diagram of household wiring in there in chapter 7 (can't give you the page number because my version is an older book version). Otherwise, you can draw up your own diagram. Remember, lights in a lighting circuit are in parallel...

    trig

Graph y = sin (theta) y = cos(3pi/2 + theta) = cos(theta - (-3pi/2)) The second curve is just cos(theta) shifted 3pi/2 to the left. You will see that the graphs for both equations are the same. Is that what you were wanting??

Does anyone else think I am crazy??

14 units is doable if you want to do them. Though, taking only General maths (is that the new name for the old 2 Unit course or the old 2 Unit Maths In Society course?). If it is the new name for the 2U MIS then it may be tricky with Physics and Chemistry. I know the new science syllabi are more...

What do your teachers think of us???

As a future teacher, I think this site is just awesome and the most useful resource. It not only helps you HSC students but it also helps me, as a teacher, see where there are possible misunderstandings of the syllabus. This place should be compulsory for all HSC classes!

Fellow GradDipEd student pointed me in this direction. He found it while surveying useful websites for an assignment. I think this place is just awesome!

    rates of change questions

    The diagram for this one is just a cylinder with a big hole in it of height = h. The inner radius = r and the outer Radius = R V = (πR2 - πr2)h volume remains constant so dV/dt = 0 dVdt = (2πR.dR/dt - 2πr.dr/dt)h 0 = (2πR.dR/dt - 2πr.dr/dt)h therefore R.dR/dt = r.dr/dt When r = 3, R = 5...

    rates of change questions

It's been many years and a whole new syllabus since I tutored and taught Extension 2 (it was called 4 Unit back then). DO you guys do implicit differentiation? Because if you do, then this should be easy. Otherwise, it may be worth learning. eg If V = x2 and x = f(t) then dV/dt =...
