    General Thoughts: Mathematics Extension 1

OH btw I did the related rates q with implicit differentiation (worked out beautifully). Will that be accepted?

    General Thoughts: Mathematics Extension 1

Um I dont think the last probability q was a binomial? It asked for the prob that A will win eventually. The binomial was in Q11 and yeah was pretty standard

    General Thoughts: Mathematics Extension 1

Inb4 everyone on BOS gets 100%. Felt like that was an easy paper. Frustrated that I didnt get out the last part of the probability q evrn though I've done that q before -.- hoping for 1/3 for that and I couldn't get out the locus of Q as a fixed circle (I bet if I see the solution ill kick myself).

Real talk: What is the point in English?

the reason they say: develop strong communication and analytical skills and higher order thinking. the actual reason: need a benchmark to compare other subjects to for scaling reasons. in the end it's all a technicality. they'll never make english non-compulsory, but it's no coz they want...

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

this was the main reason i didn't go for it's role as a solvent :/ i got a bit paranoid in the test coz it said "with reference to underlying chemical reactions/equations" or something to that extent and figured they were hinting at the ethanol --> ethene thing. not saying what i'm saying is...

just curious, what reactions would you guys use when talking about ethanol's role as a solvent? just draw the structural formula?

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

IR what makes you so adamant on claiming ethanol --> ethene is not valid besides "it just isnt". Weve been going in circles for hours. Cant you understand that taking a bunch of ethanol and using it.... yes USING IT (I.e. its a use) to produce ethene is considered... a use... of ethanol? Why...

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

Oh you better believe it. Its why im lol'ing at anyone predicting a 95 raw. Also why I was writing up until the last minute filling my answers with as much detail as possible while others sat there twiddling their thumbs for 30 minutes

"x objects are selected at random"

Thats strange and not very intuitive...

"x objects are selected at random"

Had a brainfart lol (dont blame me I had chem). 50C4 / 60C4 yields the same answer. That was a hsc q (1998 paper) so it better not be that ambiguous tomorrow!

"x objects are selected at random"

When they say for example, "4 fish are selected at random from a tank", how do I know if they're being selected one by one or all four at once? I'm referring in particular to this q: they solution to the first part is: p(no tagged fish) = 50/60 * 49/59 * ... and so on is there an...

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

Remember that the question was not entirely focused on the use, but the IMPACT of this use on society. Going down the "ethanol can be dehydrated to ethene" path allowed you to talk extensively about impacts on society. Much moreso than linking to its use as a solvent (which is a valid point to...

    Extension 1 HSC 2014 Prediction

i do agree that 3U last questions are pretty limited in their range since there's a whole bunch of topics that could be asked that would advantage 4U kids mainly thinking induction, integration, inequalities, circle geo, combinatorics they do love their binomial theorem tho

    Exam technique questions

circle geo reading time :) MC are precious marks. don't leave them till the end or you'll get gg'd.

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

one limitation of the modelling of 'acid rain' thingo was that it didn't model the formation of nitrous and nitric acid, which are a big constituent of acid rain. hence it pretty much didn't address half of the issue. apparently you needed two limitations but that was the main one i could think...

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

I addressed the nitrogen part of that question and also said in the real world it is rarely sulfur itself that is combusted, but it is from the smelting of mineral ores. Is that two limitations? Absolute rubbish if they take off 2 marks cos you missed 1 limitation... this is why chem is fucked

Had 10 minutes to do the ethanol q. Sounds like a lot but I was freaking out LOL. Timing for science is weird

    General Thoughts: Chemistry

How did people finish in 1-1.5 hrs? Dont you want to spend time carefully wording your answers and adding all necessary details? No point of blasting through the exam when its Chem and they take marks off like opera gives out free stuff
