Plans for starting Year 12 in a few months?

Dropping software design and development and english extension, and picking up 4U maths. The bad thing about my school is that our HSC and Prelim require one more unit, so I've got 14 unit for Prelim (13 lowest) and because of it, the lowest I could do in the HSC is 12, instead of 11 if prelim...

Who thinks they've chosen the WRONG SUBJECT?

Took up Software Design and Development and it's fricken confusing! I'm like counting every second for the class to end! should've picked up chemistry or bio instead. So much easier and understable! But since my SDD teacher was nice to me (cause he taught me IST last year) I decided to stay...

    Good Year 11 Physics Textbook

Hi, our school is currently using the "Physics In Focus" textbook but I'm searching for another one for extra reading or something. In addition I have a pretty crap physics teacher so I'm trying to find a good textbook which I can understand clearly and use together with "Physics in Focus."...

    Physics halp!

Yellow is faster because it's refracting at an angle less than green, hence faster. The greater the angle, the slower (greater the change) the light will travel at. Incase you doubt me or want a source: http://www.optics4kids.com/teachersparents/articles/refractionoflight.html Search "The...

Year 11 English Area of Study and texts

Is everyone starting their Area of study already? Do most school spend all their preliminary doing their area of study? My school doesn't start until like term 2! Is that normal?

    basic algebra and arithmetic "marathon".

Well sony, since there isn't a PRELIMINARY maths forum, thus it has to be posted here. Let it be posted here because it separates the HSC questions from preliminary questions.

there's another thread for it, he doubled posted so ask your question on the other one cause that one has 10+ posts already.

    basic algebra and arithmetic "marathon".

    (x+2)^2 + (y-1)^2 = x^2 + 4x + 4 + y^2 - 2y + 1 Rearrange. =x^2 + y^2 + 4x - 2y + 1 + 4 since x^2 + y^2 + 4x - 2y + 1 = 0 = 0 + 4 = 4 My question Prove that x^2 + xy + y^2 > 0 for any non-zero values of x and y

    basic algebra and arithmetic "marathon".

omg genius! How did you know what to let x and y be? Do you just look at it and just get it magically? Thanks very much for the help =]

    basic algebra and arithmetic "marathon".

    |2x-1| = |x+4| (2x-1)^2 - (x+4)^2 = 0 difference of 2 squares [(2x-1)-(x+4)] [(2x-1)+(x+4)] = 0 (x-5)(3x+3)=0 therefore x = 5 or x = -1 there's also another way to do it but it's longer.

    basic algebra and arithmetic "marathon".

Oh i forgot :L but I edited it but I'll post it again after this answer: 25x^2 = 81 Square root both side..imagine it as Square root 25 x square root x^2 = square root 81 5x = +- (positive negative) 9 therefore x = 9/5 or -9/5 "In the notes it was proven that x^2 + y^2 >= (large than or equal...

    basic algebra and arithmetic "marathon".

    (x+2)^2 + (x-1)(x-7) = 17 Now Expand... x^2 + 4x+ 4 + x^2 - 8x + 7- 17 = 0 Simplify. 2x^2 - 4x - 6 = 0 (2x-6)(x+1) = 0 Therefore x = 3 or x = -1 Okay, my turn. "In the notes it was proven that x^2 + y^2 >= (large than or equal to) 2xy. Use this result and appropriate substitutions to prove...

    IB vs HSC

Hmmm, if you're planning to do the IB, you'll have to be an independent worker and this requires high organisation skills. Also, teachers will expect you to do your own work. Usually, most people who are quite talented, eg achieving high marks in year 10 in a range of subjects, are capable of...
