Unfortunately not, the "you are guaranteed your first preference" effectively means nothing, since it's still contingent on you achieving the course requirements (ATAR, interviews, etc). I remember when I got the early offer it was really confusing as well.

Friend of mine got 49 externally, 37 internally, feel so bad for him :(

I think it's the subjects you chose, not so much your performance unfortunately :( arabic in particular scales terribly.

They're increasing capacity this year which is why they're able to guarantee it.

Best advice I've read on here. Captured my experience perfectly. Ultimately, real success in the HSC takes a certain amount of grit.

Consistency is much more important than spikes of work. A reasonably high ATAR goal can be achieved in about 30 hours of homework a week; whether that's 90+ for someone who's never really put effort into school, or a 99.95.

I've put my marks into about 4 different ATAR calculators, and checked every year of the MATRIX one. They are all giving 99.95 without fail. Am I just setting myself up for disappointment tomorrow? - What chance do I have of not getting this? (The aggregates are all around 480).

Unfortunately that's just the lay of the land with EE2, very subjective. Don't let it change the value of your work :)
