Maths standard may not have as good of a scaling as other maths subjects but the purpose of scaling is to compensate for the difficulty of the subject. If a person were chooses Maths Extension 1 for the sake of scaling but performs terribly, they will perform worse than choosing advanced maths...

any subject combo can get you an atar over 90, as long as you perform well in them!
