    HARD VS EASY Subjects

It seems the scaling for 4unit maths was much worse this year as in 2001 the 75th percentile (92.2) scaled to 97 (according to Lazseeker) and this year the 75th percentile scaled to a mere 92.2. Still comparitivly good scaling but nothing compared to last year or other previous years. So I...

    all rounders

Heres something odd. Some of my friends are listed in the all rounders list when I know they didn't achieve band 6 in 10 or more units. Most, like me, achieved band 6 in 8 units and missed on english. List taken from BOS site.

Poll: Is 86/100 a GOOD mark for 4U Maths

where do you get all of these statistics Lazarus?

    2002 UAI's

I'm stoked, I got 99.6 and I was aiming for 99+ so I achieved my goals for the HSC well. BTW does anyone know where to get info for the top marks in courses, I saw the band percentiles but not the top marks.
  5. Q

    lazseeker v actual

Well Lazseeker turned out pretty accurate with percentiles if it was used intelligently (i.e. a good estimate of percentages based off stats from 2001 and 2002). with perhaps slightly conservative percentages Lazseeker predicted 99.35 for me and I got 99.6. Pretty close. With HSC marks Lazseeker...

    all rounders

I'm in exactly the same position, it really sux don't it. I didn't think I had a chance but the english marks (and many other subjects) were a lot higher this year so I just missed out. Well done to those who did make it.

    2002 HSC Marks

Hey guys. It's been a while since I visited this forum. Anyway here are my marks: English(adv) 89 maths ext1 94 maths ext2 93 chem 90 phys 98 I'm happy with those marks but I'm kicking myself for not trying a little harder...
  8. Q

    hsc results

The short answer is yes you can recover from one crap subject and get ~94 UAI if your other subjects are very good like mid band 5 - band 6 in 4unit maths and other "hard" subjects. Play around with some numbers in Lazseeker and see what you think for your subjects and ability level. Though...

    choices....

This is the physics forum after all so what do you expect? Honestly I do both phys and chem and I would say physics is more understanding based while chem is more memorising of facts and processes and reasons. If I had to choose it would be physics in a heartbeat. For you I would consider...
  10. Q

in lear conversation: what did u say?

Well if it was showing through the way that your character valued the play then it should be OK. That is if you said something like "I would set the opening scene in Lear's garden to represent an ordered family setting. This would then contrast the chaos of family relationships seen later and...

    English paper 2 - WTF??

They did that last year in a similar sort of way. I thought ours was easier though. Personally I think it's resonable to expect there to be a few surprises each year as they are trying to test skills and knowledge and I guess one of the skills they want is the ability to adapt to a variety of...
  12. Q

    BR/BNW Context

But then there was the element of values etc. Last year the examiners comments said all good responses had balance between context and themes/values. Though last years question didn't even mention context and if you didn't mention it you were screwed.
  13. Q

    help me please people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you would be penalised for using the author so long as it didn't limit your response. That is as long as you gave Miss Bronte a viewpoint that contrasted your other character's viewpoint then you should be fine. I assume they read any notes you put on the paper but how much they...

    BR/BNW Context

I wrote shit but what I was trying to write about was the way the values of the societies in which each text was composed is reflected in the text. I didn't do it well though as I left it to last and I was tired though I had only a few minutes less than 40.
  15. Q

    Oh no??

I don't think you will get marked down significantly for not strictly following the format of the nominated text type. If you did it in interview form but had good conversation elements then you may not get marked at all. They are far more interested in content (unless you ignored the question...
  16. Q

    Yeah Baby!

woohoo its over, by far the worst exams of the HSC are over. Did anyone else do the paper in reverse order? I did Telling the Truth -> King Lear -> BNW/BR. I did this because that was the order in which I liked the questions from best to worst when I saw them in reading time. I was pretty...

  18. Q

1 week till HSC.... how do u all feel?

I've wasted all my time on english which I'm going to bomb regardless. Still I've been doiing about 3 hours per day and feeling really guilty about it.
  19. Q

    Measons, Leptons, Phucktons...

you just need to have a very basic knowledge. Check with the syllabus dot points. With this secton the effect these theorys have on the work of physicists, society etc. is more important. It's basically a BS section.
  20. Q

    CFC's anyone???

Shipwrecks and salvage is the worst crap ever. The only positive is that if we get electrolysis questions in the core section they'll be a snap.
