I came back from holidays and the power was off. My AC Adapter for my laptop was plugged into the powerpoint. Now it isn't working. So do I need to get a new one, or will leaving it unplugged for a while fix it?

what do you mean the power was off? as in the actual laptop, or the powerpoint? leaving your ac adapter in a powerpoint while the powerpoint is on will eventually fry your ac adapter.

The power to the house was off. I haven't had it that long only about 5 months, would it fry that quickly?

A power surge may have caused it.

Some adaptors have fuses/diodes in them.

Yeah I was thinking that a power surge screwed it up. It's not that getting a new one is that expensive. Just that it takes time.

Would it be covered by my dell parts warranty if I just say it 'stopped working'?

If it came with the Dell, then yes, probably. Have you tried it with other equipment, in different powerpoints ?

Most likely a sudden spike or drop caused damage to it.

I haven't tried it in anything else because it doesn't go with anything else. It worked before I left and it wasn't plugged into the laptop when it happened so it can't be the laptop.

make sure which part of the AC is damaged

for Dell, the problem could lie between :
the Powerpoint and the powerpack thingy
Powerpack and laptop
the AC plug into the laptop itself

but if it's under warranty, you can make up a story and get it fixed :)
