Hey guys, this question was asked by my teacher today

Explain the reaction between elements and compounds in terms of atomic structures and periodicity

within an acid-base neutralisation reaction i'm guessing.

I have no idea how the periodicity (placement in periodic table?) affect the reaction.. I'd really love to understand it by tonight. Help! Will repay in many hugs and chocolate :)

she meant, when you do an acid-base reaction, how can you explain the reaction in terms of atomic structure and periodicity

like group I and II are neutral cations.. i think?

oh right - i think you're looking at proton donation/proton acceptor bronsted lowry stuff...

so any element/compound which can donate a proton can act as an acid etc.

you've also got the fact that metallic cations form acidic oxides and non-metallic form basic oxides (plus there are amphoteric ones)

i'm not too sure about this, seems a bit vague...
It's the other way round.
