Hey brother. My first post here. Ive been through all my process. I did my JOES day, had my interview, and have been to Canberra for my OSB. I got a letter of offer.

There are four letters you can get.

"Congratulations, you have a guaranteed spot if you get the UAI"
"Congratulations, you have gone into the selection pool"
"Sorry, try again next year, youre too immature"
"Sorry."

It is an excellent process. I started mine at the beginning of the year. I got accepted as a General Service Officer in the Army. Im doing a Ba. Science, and I only need 70 for it.

Good luck.

Hey, I got my letter of offer today for ADFA 2007!
Army GSO with first preference Elec Eng and Science as my second.

I can't work out whether I've got a "Guarenteed if you get the UAI" letter or a "selection pool" letter.
It was simply two pages, one saying well done and all that, the other being the official job offer from with a dotted line on the bottom.

Anyone care to enlighten me?

my question:
Hypothetically lets say sinful( idk if yr chik or guy) apllied as GSO in army but wanted to do aero engineering. which is uai of 85.

Lets say he/she did all the steps etc etc and got accepted and he said yes yes I want to do aero. My question is, is what if sinful got home from canberra after a ripper OSB and decided he/she wanted to do Ba science? Can sinful just put aero as first preference then Ba science as second? and will if sinful ddint get 85 but 79 would they still let him in for Ba science?

becuase i was under the impression that if you said you wanted to do a course you couldnt change? is this true?

Shady01 - Yes your right (about the fact that you CAN change), if you got in through all the steps for Aero, but you didn't get the UAI, just ring your defence interviewer and say you want to change your course. I know this because on my OSB, a girl (second time she did her OSB) who passed the military aspect but didn't get the required UAI for any course was told what i just said above by the ADFA Education Specialist.

Hey, how did you find YOFT?

I'm no where near as fit as I should be. I can meet the BFA however I'm sure the BFA is far from the nessesary fitness level to complete YOFT . I'm planning to work my butt off between now and when I get shipped down there, but I don't think I can reach a 'gun' level of fittness.

I'm worried that I'll really struggle physically during YOFT. Any particular type of training I should focus on? Long jogs, quick sprints, short fast swims, long swims etc etc?

Also what did you do in that extra year in the ADF?
I'm gonna guess navy?

How do you find ADFA, good lifestyle? How are the people?

UAI permitting I will hopefully see you down there next year!

YOFT is different every year however we found it was more about long slow distance runs than sprints... Don't stress if your not up to a gun level of fitness when you join ADFA however it will help if you are at least basically fit... By the end of YOFT everyone will have a good base level fitness...

The lifestyle at ADFA is great however its not for everyone... If its for you then you'll love it too and fit right in but you'll know pretty quickly if its not for you...

Yeah I'm Navy - i spent six months doing basic officer training and then six months on a patrol boat out of Darwin - Good times

See the light, join the white

Me too mate. I got my ADFA pack today, forms that tell me what stuff I need to take to ADFA, security forms, generic letter from the commandant, etc. All that stands in my way now is that dreaded UAI. We find that out in a week and a day... So here's to hoping!

Hopefully I'll see you down there!

PFA was fine, but I'm more worried about the fitness required for ADFA. I imagine it would definately be fairly grueling and challenging...
