Proves that the smartest people are men, but the smarter overall gender will be women.

Favouritism? Some schools also like to separate ranks 1 and 2, as the exam results are averaged I believe to attain a moderated assessment mark that ends up being the distributor (could be wrong - I asked about this in the beginning of the year as I was tied 1st in Biology). In this way a higher distributor mark can be attained which is generally better for everybody.

How can 48.4% of people receive >70 ATAR? Isn't an ATAR defined exactly so that only 30% of people can receive >70 ATAR?

According to basically everything, an ATAR is a percentile rank. Am I missing something?

edit: similarly, how can 16% of people get >90 - it therefore follows that 16% of the state beat 90% of the state. what.

The ATAR ranks your position relative to the year 7 cohort, not just those who finished year 12

Expanding on this, it basically accounts for the students that have already dropped out

Your HSC Mark as it appears is rounded to a whole number. But the HSC Mark is actually taken to a decimal place. That was my understanding of it but I'm sure some on here have a better working knowledge of the HSC/ATAR system.

They are to one decimal place, so whilst you might have gotten a max 'reported' mark, your mark is at least 0.05 off the person who came first.
