I have a habit of making things up (keeps the teacher from getting pissed at us) on the spot. the issue with that is that when I look at related texts, out of habit ill write things down that aren't actually... sane, unless an explanation accompanies it. what good are notes and quotes if you need to explain why it relates then relate the explanation to your concept/point. I chose a song by dream theater as one of my related texts and began relating lines to different concepts and now i figured i'd post it up see what the community can come up with (this is my first post here but i do float as a guest around these forums a lot so im expecting good things!)

The song is called "Status Seeker" - basically about the band changing their style to appease fans
Heres the lyrics -

2. Status Seeker

[music by Dream Theater]
[lyrics by Dominici and Petrucci]

Heart sick at the sight of the
Status Seeker
In a sense I'm not beyond reproach
the aspiration to drop a name
When any rose might smell the same
Maybe you'll figure it out someday
"I want to know you now...
You know I've always believed in you."

Nothing is sacred...
You draw the bottom line
with a dollar sign
Change of opinion...
At the drop of a dime
Graceless intrusion...
Are you sanctified in your
judgment of me?
All that I deserve is what you were
unable to see

In a garden where the seeds were
spilled
I favored the few that stood strong
in the sun
As I reached for the profit of my prize
I found I had trampled the forgotten
ones

Nothing is sacred...
You draw the bottom line
with a dollar sign
Change of opinion...
At the drop of a dime
Graceless intrusion...
Are you sanctified in your
judgment of me?
All that I deserve is what you were
unable to see

You're running in circles
And I'm turning away
You refused to believe
Now I'm turning away

Nothing is sacred...
You draw the bottom line
with a dollar sign
Change of opinion...
At the drop of a dime
Graceless intrusion...
Are you sanctified in your
judgment of me?
All that I deserve is what you were
unable to see

You're running in circles
And I'm turning away
You refused to believe
Now I'm turning away
K now lets have some ideas :)

I haven't actually read the entire song, just the first few lines. But I noticed the repetition of the line "Nothing is sacred...". Obviously theres a point there, considering your song is about changing to belong, the artist's idea there is that you aren't permanently locked in to belonging to one (culture?).

My 2 cents. Hope you find it useful.
