3dmarks (default no AA or AF)

x1800 = 8941 3dmarks
7800GTX = 8280 3d marks

Half Life 2 (1280x1024 , 4x AA 8 xAF)

x1800 = 93.6 fps
7800GTX = 90.0 fps

Far Cry (1280x1024,4xAA 8xAF)

x1800 = 66 fps
7800GTX = 57.5 fps

Doom 3 (1280x1024, 4xAA 8x AF)

x1800 = 68.9 fps
7800GTX = 56.1 fps

stats from Atomic
not sure wot comp they used for benchmark but im sure they didnt use anything that would bottleneck it.

so as u can x1800> 7800gx....also the x1800 uses a new ringbus memory architecture which will make it future proof as "current crossbar architectures will be soon insufficeint for high end gddr3 and gddr4." and " as ram gets faster, the hardware reading and writing to the memory must be able to handle the workload"

but the thing going for the nvidia card is that its probably gonna be cheaper..but will it be cheap enuff to outweigh the x1800??

ATi has already lost half a generation life to nVidia. It doesn't matter if it's superior since thousands of 7800GTX has already been sold, and ATi would have a hard time to catch up.

Few points to make:

1. I'm pretty sure they benchmarked the 256MB GTX. If you read my other thread, you'd know that nVidia is about to release the 512MB GTX, clocked at 30% higher (550MHz/1800MHz).. and it will be cheaper than the current GTX. XFX is also planning to release a 580MHz/1730MHz GTX too.

2. We do really need to know what processor. Even a X850XT got a bit CPU-bound unless it had a high-end CPU.. so one can only imagine for the new cards. An expert OCer on MPCEH claimed that even on his Athlon64 4800+, the GTX was being bottlenecked. So hopefully Atomic is playing safe and using something insane, like an FX-57.

3. Did they bench anything else other than 12*10, 4xAA/8xAF? Those settings have gotta favour ATi, since we know the R520's new caches & memory controllers gives it kickbutt AA/AF performance.

4. I'm a bit skeptical of those Doom 3 benches. Everywhere else I've read, it appears one part still lagging in ATi's new X1000 series are Doom 3 benches.
