i hope this isnt too complicated

format is a bit screwy

does 110 go into 1, no, 10, no, 101, no, but it does into 1011
therefore add a one to the top
1
110 / 1011110

now u do 1011 - 110

2's complement

110 = 001 + 1 = 010

1011 + 010 = 1101

thus u get
1111
110/1011110
.......0110
.......1101 *cut off the leading one
........1011- *bring down the 1, and put a one at the top
..........110 *1011 + 010 = 1101
.........11011- *bring down the 1, cut off the one
..............110
............11010- *bring down 0, cut off the one
................110
................100

there for the answer is 1111 r 100

the answer in excel is just the fraction version of the same thing, writing the above will give the same result

What's the go, you can only attach files up to 1 byte!!!

Winston I've emailed a jpeg to you using your hotmail address from this site. If you can shove it in this thread somehow that would be good.

Yeah we're stingy on bandwidth at the moment lol...

i'm not sure if it's gonna go to my inbox because hotmail is 2mb, stingy on space as well

You're adding not subtracting

from the RHS:

1-0 =1 then
1-1 = 0 then
10-1=1

So you get 101

there is a thing called 2'complement. Since computers cant subtract they add the negative version of that number

So when you minus the numbers, instead of taking away u find the negative version of that number then add it.

For instance you want to do

1011 - 110

therefore u find the 2's complement of 110

to find this, u first find the 1's complement, which basically means turning all the 0's into 1's and 1's into 0's

so 110 becomes 001.

BUt now you have to find the 2's complement, and this is done by adding a 1.

so u get

001+
001

which becomes 010.

thus now you can add 010 to 1011,

1011+
0010

which will get you the same as minusing it.

think of it like this. you have positive 1011, and you wish to minus 110. now when you find the 2's complement you are finding a negative number. so it becomes

1011 - - 010, which becomes 1011 + 010 (two negatives make a positive)

so this becomes
1011 + 010

which equals, 1101, but you ignore the first bit, so you get 101.

i wouldnt get into the habit of trying to minus binary, because quite often if the bos give you a binary minus of diversion question they want you to use 2's complement.

question 5 is basically about adders. You NEED to know these. Adders are used in adding up bits, and you should really revise this. Rind advice line, they can explain it.

Question9, well this is to do with ASCII, dont worry you dont need to know all the ASCII codes, but you should learn some basic printer commands e.g. carrage return. The actual question they give you will not be on the test, unless they include a ASCII table (which they wont), but none the less they may ask about different printer commands in an algorithm. The most likely thing that this will be used will be similar to the specium paper (http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/pdf_doc/software_specexam.pdf), but with printer options instead of Pen lifting.

question 10, is a simple comprehesion question, read your text book.

hope that helps
