UNSW has co-op scholarship - if you aren't a co-op scholar you are pretty much stuffed in terms of getting placements at reputable firms via university. Co-op scholarship in finance is pretty awesome. USYD does not give out these to students based on ATAR (which is basically the co-op scholarship). Once you are in the university, you can apply to the industry placement program and depending on your major, your marks, extra curriculars and internal assessment centre performance, you will get a firm (e.g. if you express interest in accounting and perform well - typically a big 4, if finance - something like maq etc etc). I am externally doing an internship at a big 4 at the moment and a friend is currently working their casually (she was part of USYD's program and they offered her a job after that, she's only 2nd year).
