I go to a top 10 school (usually top 5 but not this year) and I bombed my maths extension internals.
I got 25.5 and the median was 24 and mean was 23, and its weighted 15%. maths is meant to be one of my middle best subjects (ranked 8/150 overall in yr 11), can i even bounce back from this? My rank will probably be around 40 or something, maybe even lower if im unlucky. I want a 99.5 atar, should i lower my goal?

You mean 25.5%? What was the exam on? Was it further functions and graphs topic of 3 unit? I may be able to help with more information.

That is 85%, which is an excellent mark.

You can estimate your ATAR at https://uac.edu.au/future-applicants/atar-compass using the raw mark to HSC mark (aligned mark) database from https://rawmarks.info/ for specific subjects that you do.

I do not know the difficulty of Combinatorics because I have not started on it yet. However, I recommand you re-evaluate your study technique. Maybe try doing note-taking after school and only doing a few questions each day (prioritising note taking on school days) and doing as many questions on weekends and holidays. In Year 12, the Vectors topic is one of the easiest topics in Extension Mathematics, so you can still achieve better results. Year 11 is the best year to decide on the best methods for studying before Year 12 starts.

You probably will achieve a good ATAR (maybe even higher than 99.5). However, my advice so far may not be the best (coming from a predicted ATAR student of around 84).

If you would like any practice exams, I will post any that you want on this forum. Would you like any practice exams for Mathematics Extension I? I will be making a Combinatorics exam soon.
