I just wanted to ask if someone could help me with this equations question that I struggled with for my homework.

The notion of "same total cost" means that we are equating total costs. Total costs can be found by multiplying the number of pens by the original price (which we will label ) and the new price (which would be ), as follows:






Therefore, the original price of each pen was 75 cents.
