Hey UOW'ers,
I was wonderin if anyone is interetsed in doing this course, i read about it in the
last issue of that Uni Magazine UOW gives out to prospective studnets and it looks pretty interesting but i wanna know what the course is like and whos doin it?
Also ive always been interested in doin medicine and this looks like a good way of gettin into it through post grad med studies at UOW after doing this course but id really wanna know about the competetition and just any general advice that someone could perhaps share or give me?!

Much appreciated.
Cheers.

i know of a couple of people who are doing it...

apparently its a little bit of everything. like medical science, nursing, physiology, exercise science, psychology and possibly more health disciplines (that are offered at uow anyway) all rolled into one. then again that might be the introductory units, maybe you can major in one of them later and actually be qualified in something at the end?

this really only seems handy if you want to do postgrad something, like medicine, physio or something.

Sounds like the B Med Science (aka Bachelor of GAMSAT) - useful for entry into graduate medicine, but not much else.

If you want to get into grad medicine, pick something that will be easy to do well in, because in the end it's your grades that they look at. Health sciences are a great way to go in that they prepare you for chemistry and etc, but said preparation is (in my experience) quite hard to maintain a D average in.

If on the other hand that's not what you want to do, pick a degree that will get you into the profession that you desire. A degree in 'health science' strikes me as being pretty generalist in nature, which may come back to bite you in a few years time. That said, UOW is pretty easy with transfers between their various health science degrees, and so something like this would be good to enrol in if you couldn't think of anything else you'd like to do. As you're exposed to different areas of health science, you might find that you are drawn to one in particular, and transfer into a more specialised degree which focuses on it.
