now im totally lost..
for my first semester, i chose,

math1131 1A
phys1121 1A
engg1811
engg1000

it keeps giving me the same options, except with computing 1, higher phys, higher maths, maths 1b.
im willing to take computing and maths 1b, which makes sense, but the higher maths & physics seems ridiculously daunting and i dont think ill cope.

BUT, when i went to add courses, and went to search by catalogue, i put in ELECT and second session, and it gave me a whole list of courses i could do but i have nfi which to pick. so i dont know at all what im supposed to do.

You dont have to do higher physics or maths, they are optional. Depending on your own ability or knowledge level during first year

phys1221 physics 1b
math1231 maths1b
comp1921 data struct and algo
ELEC1111 Elec & Telecomm Eng
What gman said is right for semester 2. Im preety sure that what he suggested is the two recomended electives for electrical engineering, so you cant really go wrong with the tried and tested options.

Have a look at this page it shows a recomended first year course structure http://www.handbook.unsw.edu.au/undergraduate/programs/2006/3640.html

I hope that helps :)
