I think notes and practice questions are the main things. It's good to keep up to date with news as it certainly does relate in essays. I also recommend getting economic theories, stats etc. which you can use to enhance response

I find memorising so many stats for eco in hsc hard, so maybe start collating and concising them

as someone who does modern and memorises (a few) stats + historical arguments and examples, organising them in a table as you're going through the topics is a good start, i know a few people who do that

personally when i'm making my notes i make them stand out and look colourful so they stick in my mind more as i'm reading through them, something like this

Try using mindmaps and visual abstractions, making those connections makes it much easier to memorise or achieve whatever your goal is.

From what I remember, the one I used the most last year was Australian Financial Review. You could also use smh or any of those websites.

Even the news -like right now with what’s going on with the banking sector

For writing essays, are there any KEY events that I must mention in most essays?
For example, COVID, the mining boom... (please give more ideas)

Also, HOW do I stay up-to-date with news? There's so much and if it's changing everyday, should I read it every day or every second day?

Sometimes questions will ask about events within the last 5 years, so yeah covid, mining boom, Ukraine Russia War and there's also minor events like ChAFTA.
You don't really need to follow the news like it's homework, but you can check news stories every now and then when you're bored (as long as you know what's happening) you can even ask or talk to others about it

Yeah that's understandable. Any tips on how to prep for random essay questions?

Assorted tips:
  • The best way to do well in economics (and most other subjects) is to 1) Understand the concepts deeply to the point where you can explain it to your friend and 2) do practice questions and get high quality feedback on your answers so you keep improving.
  • Some sources for stats: RBA (especially their Snapshots), ABS Key Indicators (Note: It's pretty easy to swamped by lots of different stats that might not be relevant, so I recommend starting with the content first, and what you're trying to show. The statistics then act as supporting evidence.)
  • Some media: Sydney Morning Herald Business, ABC Business (The Kohler Report is a daily ~2 minute video which is super helpful), The Economist (more global, so won't be as irrelevant for exams, but still very interesting!)
  • Textbooks: The Dixon textbook is pretty fantastic, especially the examples they use. The only issue is that almost everyone uses this textbook so everyone ends up using the same examples in their essays, so don't rely on it 100% (e.g. make sure you supplement by reading the news or finding your own stats). The Riley textbook covers the theory in quite a bit of depth, but can be dense for some. Both are great!
  • How to do well in economics essays:
    • Know your glossary of key words. An "Analyse" essay is different to an "Evaluate" essay question
    • Spend the first 2-5 minutes making a plan. The plan should have the key points you're going to make plus the examples you will use
    • Use statistics and examples
    • Use diagrams where possible. Explain them if you can
I used to write a fortnightly "Economics Update" which covered 2-3 important news articles and related it back to the syllabus. I can bring it back if there's enough demand for it - send me a message if you're keen

There’s not really much more than knowing your content/syllabus. Try work on making connections between concepts no matter how unrelated they are

Yh not much more, just have a small library of stats/examples you can use for any essay (e.g. Ukraine Russia War, COVID etc.) and just practicing essays is really valuable
