Man I am so angry, I ring this up tonight as I want some help with IT - Timber, like a few questions I am un sure of and I can also not find them on the internet!

I call up and I though I was talking to one of thoes indian call center style telemarketers, I had to spell out my name like 4 times to her, and gave her my student number like 3 times, Biggest joke every she couldnt even speak english! Then I said can I get some help now please then she was like sorry we dont support that subject!

Wtf is this shit why even offer a support hotline if you dont offer a subject that a lot of people do!

this advice line has actually got good credibility from what ive heard so far. i advice you ( if you still have not taken your test) to call up again and try. some girl from james ruse told me that she read out her essays to them and luckily, she got in contact with one of her teachers. try again and again until you get help!

Did you read the letter you were sent by the Board? It told you which subjects would be available and when. It is 25 cents and nothing more. That's virtually free, especially for the service they provide. I don't think you have much basis for dissing them.

You don't need to spell your name out- you just tell them your student number and they have your details in front of them, they only ask for ur name to confirm. Plus, there are only some subjects that the hsc advice line dont cover- like IT and Society&culture.

Its actually really good, depending on who you get.

alot of people throw this word around 'free' when we are all older earning at least $30000, a good $5000 goes to taxes at least (correct me if im wrong, it may be more or less im not sure with recent changes), so essentially we paid that $5000 for those few phone calls you could say
but when we're older and earning more we pay even more tax which pays off all the teachers salarys for a year in just one student/person

i really dont think anythings free, sooner or later the government will have our money :(

IT is a VET subject, i don't think they support that, only main board endorsed courses. correct me if im wrong.

advice line is excellent, and you just had a bad first experience, call again. i read out my essay a few days ago to an advisor and she was really nice, she gave me feedback on every paragraph i read out and gave me feedback in the end. the only thing she wasn't allowed to do was give me a mark for it...oh well, she was really helpful anyhow.

man, your really racist towards indians...
this is like the 3rd post where I've seen u make a comment about them

and the HSC advice line is helpful...
it offers help for the mainstream subjects

and that HSC online advice line is by students-so they have no idea what they are talking. If u want help, call the real advice line.

Once again, i'm glad to see your doing your bit for this forum. Perhaps a less agressive 'let's provoke an argument' sort of opinion of the Unofficial HSC Advice Line would be that it does not cover all subjects, and yes it is run by students who may not be familiar in the areas you require advice in so try the real advice line first if you are in desperate need of help.

It also depends who you get on the Advice line.
The first women i talked to was really cheerful and willing to help :) , but the 2nd lady was actually really rude...... when i asked my question and she couldnt really help because she hadn't read my text Wild Swans. What she should have done was transfere me to someone who actually could help me with the text!!

Actually both of my calls to the HSC Advice Line to ask simple Q's were really good.

The first Q about whether they could/would specialise- the guy that responded was very polite, helpful, and provided examples of how/where they might specify and then wished me luck.

The second call to ask about different text types led me to a lady who was really well mannered as well, answered my question in a calm fashion and gave really good examples with depth- and then wished me luck too.

I don't know about you guys but IMO, considering it's nearly free (in the sense that regardless of level of usage- the cost is fixed; and that we're only going to be paying for the phone call & taxes later on), I think it's pretty good service. The people answering gave responses as good as what I'd expect from school teachers- it gave me the feeling they actually WANTED to help; something which I find great.

But that's just my 2 cents.

You probably could ring a TAFE up and ask for some sheets on vet it.
