When I go out, I generally wear sneakers and jeans, and it's only for "important" functions such as going to meet relatives that I can be bothered to wear more...stylish? options (not formal, just more dressy than usual).

Except recently my last 2 pairs of black shoes fell apart beyond repair. I'd even fixed one of them up with black sticky tape (that's how much I loved them). They were both very dear to my heart because I bought them for $30 in KMart, aged eleven, when I realised everybody around me was growing...and my height was still stagnant...so I had to pretend. **cough** well anyhow. That was 2000 - so by the length of time my going-out shoes last you can clearly see the frequency and extent of my socialising.

So yeah...I'm looking at decently priced options (like Payless, I guess, or maybe Myer, cause we can get Fly Buys)...so what kind of shoes should I get? I could probably get plain shoes again, but I was thinking of being a bit more adventurous, since I'm quite a bit older than I was in year 6.

Recommendations, please? Mum and I are going into Chatswood this afternoon, and I'd be grateful if I could get some advice.

what she said ^^ lol u can find some really gorgeous ballet flats.

a nice pair of thongs - not haivanna type thongs, but u know those ones that have a nice top on them...like beads and stuff. I suck at describing. Check out all those show shops, even ones like Shoobiz. I don't know wat sort of shops they have at chatswood.

Birkenhead Point at Drummoyne has a few shoe shops that are heavily discounted. I saw a pair of ballet flats that i LOVED at broadway, for $80. but there was no way i was payng that much. I found the exact same pair for $40 at birkenhead. awesome bargain. lol

if you want height go for ones that have a small design strap towards the toes and that are all open at the back. it takes a while to get use to, but they're cute shoes. You've also got points - stylish, comfortable, sophisticated and u can dress them up or down.

look out for the brand "Amaze". they have gorgeous shoes, ive got 4 different Amaze shoes, and they all cost me $30 each

good luck!

you can get cute rounded-toe ballet-type shoes but with kitten heels, they might give you thaht extra inch or so.

plain black pointy flats are also really great and again you can also get them with a heel! the great thing about them is that you can dress them up or down! they're suitable to wear clubbing with some jeans and a pretty top, you can wear them to job interviews with a black skirt or pants, and even to formal/dressy-type occasions with a nice cocktail dress!

oh my god stop promoting points, they make small people look completely out of proportion to their bodies.

otherwise i have little suggestion apart from nice beaded thongs, its hard if you don't like heels because those are my "going out" shoes and cause you're short they'd be uh a nice height enhancer.

if you're not used to them get short, kitten heels

but don't buy points particularly if you're small

they have to be going out of fashion soon anyways. oh and there are a few gorgeous shoe stores at chatswood, if i could i would buy EVERY shoe in Aldo *sigh*

kitten heels are great.

you can get away with points if you're short, but if you're small/petite (unless you've got tiny little feet) it definitely won't work. they will make your feet look huge in comparison

( i should have mentioned that in my post )

flats??? yuk, get real shoes ;).

i dont know what your tastes are like but if you can find some nice round toe kitten heels in an inexpensive shoe store, get them. try black or red.

my philosophy is: if you're short, you'd better get used to heels sooner rather than later, because chances are that you will spend a good portion of your life in them :).

Ummm if you're after flats, Target has their ballet flats back and its 15% off storewide... Not my thing, but lots of people love them and they're quite fashionable atm.

I love Shoobiz / Mollini in Chats, its a good place to get shoes that don't cost a fortune. DJs migh still have their sale on but i wouldn't be too hopeful. Nine West is also good if you want heels.

I bought myself a pair of Dunlop Volleys yesterday, $20 from Big W. Lovin' it! :)

dunlop volleys are a hazard. I bought a pair in my usual size but which were slightly longer on my foot than normal shoes. I subsequently tripped up some stairs and bruised my knee and my dignity. The moral of the story is, volleys are dangerous.

Black pointies are dangerous.

My first pair was completely ruined because i couldn't get used to the fact that my feet were 3-4cm longer than they usually were. The fronts were just stubbed on stairs, trains, just walking in general.

yes, yes they are very dangerous. my last (and only) pair of black pointies got wrecked when i was getting out of a car cos i tripped and broke one of ht eheels off.

of course it was the shoes fault, not the copious amount of alcohol i drank beforehand

I need to buy new closed toe shoes (pointy, round, whatever). The black bottom part of the heel of my purple ones came off, and they were my favourite shoes. All my other shoes are open toe, or closed toe ugly ones.
you can get that fixed at any shoe repair place. it happens all the time.
although, an excuse to buy new shoes...:D

update!

So we went shopping today...and after browsing around some stores and finding the majority of shoe stores way over my usual budget (why is it that they expect you to pay in excess of $100 for simple wedges?) we came to the conclusion that we're going to wait for the Myer Card Candy voucher to come into effect next week (buy any pair of full-priced shoes and get a free singlet top "worth $19.95".

But like the spoilt brat I am, I persisted. And so we went to DJ's, but the prices drove me into the children's section. And guess what I found? **see attached photo** I thought they were rather cute; they look very similar to my black dance shoes except the colour. They have a small heel too.

No offence to anyone, but there appear to be a few misconceptions going around...contrary to most, I actually have worn high heels since I was eleven (my faithful black shoes were 3 and 4cm high). From then on I started to realise that everyone else was growing, but I wasn't, so for more important occasions I began moving through my mother's shoe collection.

In fact, if the relatives take us out to dinner, I usually wear her black wedges - which are 7cm high and lovely, but way too impractical for everyday wear.
