i'm a year ten student at a girls school ranked about 110, and i was wondering if its worth it to sit the hast this year to transfer to my local selective school, which is ranked about 25 - 20ish most years
right now the main reason i want to go is bc the chem teachers arent shit there like they are at my school, but ive heard since im top at my current school i would get a worse atar being ranked middle at a selective school

i think you should take the risk and at least try out and then evaluate whether you want to go or not.

if youre ranked first at your current school and youre certain that you can keep it up then i wouldnt worry just yet, 110 isnt awful

imo the two benefits of going to a selective school are motivation (aka peer pressure) and having a buffer in case you mess up in the HSC

I don't think being ranked middle at a selective school is necessarily worse than being top at your current school, especially if you're not very consistent in your exam performance. Being in the middle of a strong cohort means that your final marks can be more predictable, since your internals will be solid no matter how your externals go

not at all lol

no, just study the hsc subjects now

yes, you will get a worse mark since now ur middle rnaked in a quite dropkick cohort

25th is literally extremely bad, like very bad.

I would probably recommend trying out anyway; having options is always better than not having options. I also transferred from a public school in rank 80 to 100 to a selective school. You can check out my story below:

to be honest I think if you do have the abilities to do well at your public school, you will be ranked near/around the same in a selective school. I wouldn't say a selective school would disadvantage if you are able to adapt to the environment and usually most students are pretty welcoming to transfers. The good thing is selective schools provide a good safety net for HSC and also the motivation and peer study/help is another good factor.
