Mac -> Mac or UNSW -> Mac? (1 Viewer)

Is it better/easier to transfer internally from Macquarie --> Macquarie or from UNSW --> Macquarie?

Let me elaborate:

My top choice is a Bachelor of Creative Arts at Macquarie. Thanks to a happy little bonus 5 Mac points (Encouragement Scheme thingo) I only need a UAI within the realm of 81-83. My problem is trying to figure out (and not stress too much) about my other preferences...

There are two things I can do, really. On one hand is the idea of an internal transfer - doing other courses at Mac, some of which I like, others which I could bear with (just) in the knowledge that I could transfer into the BCA after a semester or a year. The UAI required for these courses ranges from the same as the BCA down to 76.

(My estimated UAI ranges from anywhere between high seventies to high eighties. In a nutshell, I screwed up one of my TEN units, for which I don't see anything higher than in the seventies. However, in two other subjects, I expect something in the eighties, and for 4U english, I expect to do somewhat well (eg nineties for sure - ignoring the fact that extension units are out of 50 ), particularly as there is a history of much english scaling up at my school. I hope that it all balances out somewhere in the eighties, but as I'm not exactly sure how it will end up... STRESS!!!)

The other thing I could do is do a Bachelor of Arts at UNSW, for which the required UAI is 86 or so - higher than what I'd need for the BCA (which is what I want to do). So what am I thinking? If I don't get into the BCA, no way I'm going to get into the UNSW course... but what if Mac suddenly becomes majorly popular and I can't get into any of the courses I want....

So it comes down to: As an emergency choice, would it be better to put all my Mac courses above the UNSW one (inc the ones I'm really not all that keen on doing) or put the UNSW course above my "dooby" Mac ones?

Or does it not matter at all? Does only my first preference really matter (in terms of order)? If I don't get the BCA, am I able to pick and choose from all my other choices regardless of order?

If you have the uai for the top choice u get that
if not they give you your next choice if you have the uai for that... and so on.

Do what you feel is necessary but if Bachelor of Creative Arts at Macquarie is all you want to do then you should probably pick mostly maq degrees after that then if worst comes to worst you could transfer mid semester. you could transfer from nsw but its prob harder across unis. Besides the 5 point increase will help you get better courses at maq.

From what your saying you will probably get the uai you require anywayz.

In my opinion it would be ideal to go to Macq as you will be sure which courses (i.e. subjects) can be carried over to your transferred degree (and I'm referring to things like credit points and subject excempting etc). Also you will get to be more familiar with the Macq than with say UNSW.

If you have apply for ACCESS scheme, there is a possibility for Macq to take you even if your uai is 8% lower than the cut-off, thou you can't take me for granted on this.

Well, so far the general concensus has been to stick with the Mac courses in the event I don't get my first choice. And that's how I've ordered my preferences. Thanks for all the input guys! Hope to see you next year! lol

roflness @ HSC stress. My school-predicted UAI was 85min to 95 max, but my self-predicted UAI actually dropped to about 75 min and 85 max and 65 min and 82max in the weeks leading up to the HSC. However I ended up with 92.95, so with my added bonus I actually got into my top selected degree - the BCA Int Studies (10 UAI points higher than regular BCA).

However I'm not sure I'll get the credit average required for one 300-level ARTS unit, so will probably drop down to reg BCA sometime this year. I'd actually prefer it... means I get to do my internship in Australia rather than overseas Much much easier and possibly better should I impress them enough to hire me

The truth is actually that I was searching for another old thread to bump (but for administrative purposes), and found this instead... then I realised Cyan had asked a question which GASP I hadn't answered, so I decided I had to put him out of his misery and tell him what uai I got and what course I got accepted into

Up to 4 people hand in a one-page "why I should be given the scholarship" papers, and that's the way it rolls...

or maybe they do. *shrug*

I'm happy I got it but don't see it as something to brag about. All it required was a clever bit of letter-writing... not to totally discount what I did achieve, but I didn't have to sit an exam or pass some test or anything hugely significant like that.

I think that 5 extra marks thing is really unfair. If a certain school has a good number of people already going to Mac every year, they don't tend to give it.

I would prefer it to be a scholarship type of thing open to all.

hehe, I remember when we were like google detectives over this thing a while back *digs up* And here's what we found:

Macquarie Preffered Admission Scheme:

A certain number of schools are partners with Macquarie University in a scheme that allows students to apply for 5 bonus UAI points towards any degree at Macquarie University. In 2001 it recieved 220 applicants of which it approved of 21. Among the schools eligible for this scheme are: James Ruse Agricultural High School, Hornsby Girls High School, Normanhurst Boys High School, Marist Sisters College, William Clarke College, Pennant Hills High School along with many others. Enquire with your careers advisor as to whether your school is eligible and for the appropriate forms.

Different admission scheme - the one you're referring to is the Educational Access Scheme
