Mangroves grow in salt water, so why do they need fresh water to survive?

i assume by fresh water it means rain so mangroves need rain to keep the salt levels at a healthy amount?

Even though mangroves live in salt water, they utilise fresh water for the chemical reactions of photosynthesis which are conducted by all plants.

They need salt ions because they are good nutrients needed for their growths.

Since mangroves live in salt water, they try to balance out the water and salt balance by excreting salt.

So what they do is that they take in salt water and excrete salt.
