I was looking around and found this post grad doc

http://www.mq.edu.au/publications/Arts.pdf

it says that

"The basic admission qualification for postgraduate
courses is completion of a recognised Bachelor
degree."

So my question is, what does that mean exactly? Is any bachelor degree good enough, eg BSc from UNSW or BCommerce from USyd, BEng from UWS, etc.

or does the bachelor have to be an in Arts?

A 'recognised' bachelor degree just basically means a degree that isn't from a dodgy institution somewhere, or if you have a degree from a foreign university, you'll have to ask MQ whether they will officially 'recognise' or acknowledge your degree first.

As for whether the bachelor degree has to be in Arts, it depends on which postgrad degree you're looking to do. Some of the postgrad degrees require a specific background (for eg, Master of Arts (Creative Arts), p.16) or any of the Development Studies postgrad degrees, or a number of others throughout the brochure.

The postgrad degrees that only state a Bachelor degree requirement without specifying your Bachelor type or major, presumably they offer introductory subjects all the way up to advanced subjects on the topic so you don't have to have a background in it before applying. You should confirm with the relevant dept to make sure.

It's usually the postgrad research degrees where you have to have a background in the topic (of course) before you can undertake research in it.

Postgrad coursework degrees are a bit more flexible, especially if they offer introductory subjects as well.
