Me and 3 people were all ranked 3rd in one of my subjects. The exam marks stood at:
1st:91
2nd:88
3rd:86
3rd:84
3rd:82
3rd:81

I ended up getting 84 for my exam mark, and 82 for my assessment mark. However, the 3rd highest mark was 86. But, what made me more curious was that everyone at 3rd had different assessment marks, including one person with a 79 =/. If marks were distributed according to how well the person ranked in the 3rd place against others in the same position, then i believe i would've gotten my own assessment mark. Can, someone explain why this happened?

When students are equally ranked 3rd, the average of all 3rd place student exam marks are used to obtain their HSC assessment mark.

This means every 3rd place student will receive identical HSC assessment marks.
