Isn't there different litmus colours, thus their ranges.

Like Red/Blue/Purple litmus paper

Red in Acid stays red, red in base turns blue.
Blue in base stays blue, blue in acid turns red.

I dunno thats what i memorised.

5-8 sounds right for the purple form.
