Hey guys,
I am just looking at the timetable trying to see how i can make it all fit esp since I have to go between campuses and applying for jobs I need an idea of the days (I know its not finalised yet) I know what law units I have to do this semester but which two social science units do you do in 1st semester. I know it says 'two Social Science units in selected specialisation' but how do I know which ones I have to do?

Also to make it fit is it possible to do one that is 9-11 then 11-1?

If it's on the same campus and you don't mind four hours of class in a row, then it is easily done. Depending on the lecturer/tutor you'll find a lot of classes don't go for the full time. More so lectures though.

if you're really struggling and confused - pretend you don't know what a timetable is hehe and call the student call line thingo - basically - pretend you're a complete idiot and just say "I wanna do this, how do i do it?"

it helps to pretend you're dumb now and then lol - saves figuring it out for yourself they'll be getting plenty of calls like that from Combined degree people the next few weeks so you won't be the only one

Your social science subjects will depend on you specialisation - in other words what social science did you choose? Then look on uws at the units for that specialisation (in the course handbook section) then try to find the ones that fit you best for your current timetable. You see social science has core units, foundation units and specialisation units, once you have completed a certain amount of your degree you must choose a specialisation - Aboriginal studies, Criminology, Employment Relations , Humanitarian and Peace Studies, Psychology, etc. Its detailed on the uws site in the handbook.

hmm - it should be on the timetables page coz it was a few days ago... are you on the right link?

maybe its coz they're updating stuff... otherwise - just wait til you can access pweb ie after enrolment - you've got plenty of time to figure it out so its no biggy right now..

When you type the subject into the little box that says "enter unit code" or "enter all or part of the unit name" and you'll get the times, if your searching through just say autumn, then you just see what subjects are running

When looking for subjects its always a good idea to open 2 webpages with links to the timetables, so you don't have to keep going backwards and forwards.

Criminology specialisation (Penrith and Bankstown Campuses) - Code 4508

This specialisation offers students the opportunity to study the incidence of differing types of crime, deviance and victimisation and their economic, social and policy contexts. It is especially focussed on understanding the formulation of crime policy, the operation of criminal justice and juvenile justice systems, and the role of government bodies and international agencies responsible for preventing, detecting and correcting crime.

Students must satisfactorily complete 80 credit points from those listed below in order to complete a specialisation in Criminology.

Tute rego is only for this semester, as the spring timetable hasn't be finalised yet

Got it...all I need to do now is figure out the soc sci units and how to cram it into three days with not much travel between campuses

Just remember, that you can only do 10 level 100 subjects, and you must do 6 level 300 subjects. Although, its advised to do 100 during first year, maybe do a level 200 in second semester, depends though.

Also, check for pre-reqs for the social science subjects. Goodluck!

I did social science last year.
You have a pool of about 10 or so units to choose from in the first year. Since you're doing a combined degree, you'll have 2 units for law, 2 for socsci per semester.

I could've listed what the 1st yr socsci unit pool is except i chucked out all my last year stuff... (unless they changed it)

Okay...site is back up, and i have found the times

However, do we attend both the tutorial and the lecture? I understand that the lecture is a large group, and the tutorial is a small group where you can present work and things?

Yup, attend both. You'll find that as the semester rolls on, people will start skipping the lectures, its up to you. You might even find that attendance is marked in lectures, which is a pain. Tutorials, attendance is marked, and you must attend 80% of the tutes, which equates to missing 2 lessons a semester.

And thats exactly what a lecture and tute is. Lecture goes over the work, while in tutes you can ask questions, do weekly readings, group discussions etc.

Sorry, another question though, If a particular unit is offered at multiple campuses, i cannot attend it at whichever campus, just at my "home" (for lack of a better word) campus?
