For law, yes, you have to go to all (or at least 80%) of the lectures. There are no tutorials, and I haven't heard of lectures being called seminars. However, the lectures in law are a lot like tutorials in other subjects. There are usually two two-hour lectures a week, and the streams are either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday. You get marked on class participation, which is typically 20% of your grade.

also im not sure entirely if law is the right degree for me. im mainly doijg it with the intent to go into finance as alot of ppl r telling me that having and doing well in a law degree will give me an edge over those who have plain comm degrees. i honestly performed pretty poorly in english advanced, is it similar in terms of the way u write and analyse stuff?

😭😭😭 Bro idek no more - but the way u analyse cases in law is surely easier than the way u analyse texts in hsc eng tho right? Cos hsc eng is js a bunch of made up bullshit
uhm idk what unsw does but its just problem solving with open book exams. its not hard but its a bit dry. like look at the list of subjects. what the hell is admin law?? i don't wanna do that??

A law degree is a lot like problem solving. You have a set of legal principles and you just have to apply the relevant principles to the facts. So it’s a lot less wishy washy than hsc english. The writing is meant to be clear and concise rather than verbose, and you're marked on your ability to make a strong argument. For example, let’s say someone places a sign on a tree in a public park saying ‘$$$ reward for finding my lost dog Milo’. You have to analyse whether an enforceable contract was formed. A good answer would apply the relevant tests correctly, and uncover all the legal issues. So one issue would be intention to create legal relations, another offer, another certainty. This is quite different to English which you can take the essay in any direction you wish. In law, although you can come to different conclusions, you simply have to consider all the relevant issues if you want to get the marks.

this is not the order of contract formation 🤓☝
I don't think it really matters. 'Intention' is often the most fundamental step, especially when there's an ambiguity as to whether this is a contract or social relationship, so it can be put first. This step sort of ties into 'offer' as it's about whether the offer is capable of being binding even if accepted. As long as the steps are in the general order I think it's fine.

Guys would you say that there is a big difference between law at maquarie and law at UNSW?
The quality of teaching might not be that different, but there is a major difference in cohorts. It's like how there might not be much of a difference in teaching between a regular public school and a selective school, but they'll have very different cohorts. UNSW law is quite competitive and I often struggle to compete. It's also much harder to land basic roles within the law society as everyone is applying for the same few positions.
