So I want to choose the following subjects for year 11:
English Ext
Maths Adv (or Standard)
Society & Culture
Drama
Dance/Music 1
French Beginners

- My English is okay, not too good not too bad but I truly like the subject, so would I do well to a certain extent if I do Ext?
- On the other hand, I hate Maths like hell but I have 0 problems with it for now. Should I do Adv for the sake of scaling or would it be too much work?
- For Drama, I can write scripts and all but my face expression is dull af I literally look the same no matter what I'm feeling *crai* would it still be okay if I do drama? I want to study theatre in the future and become a scriptwriter/director.
- I have 0 experiences in both Dance and Music would it be a bad idea if I take either one of them? For Music the only thing I can comprehend are the notes lol. But they would benefit me a lot if I want to do musical theatre right?
- What is the content in French like? I am usually a fast language learner (managed to pick up Jap) but for French I find pronunciation quite tricky

What musical instrument do you play?

What are your current electives? How are you performing in them?

Are you doing music theory exams? If not, then it might be harder? (I have not done Music)

If u can do Japanese then French is a breeze assuming you are white.
For people who finds that English is their first language, Japanese is the hardest language, followed closely by Korean and Chinese.
Although French is meant to be easy for English speakers, it really depends on how interested you are in its culture.

Although not for HSC I am currently trying to learn Chinese. Being Japanese, I have some issues with the pronunciation but people often still understand you. Just saying, Chinese is a f***ing tonal language, so if I can do Chinese, you can do French if you like the subject.

As for Music, DO NOT PICK UNLESS CONFIDENT. Music, even at Level 1 is quite difficult. Pick Dance, as I think it somewhat complements Drama. However, don't quote me on this one. Also note that picking too many non-mainstream-ish subjects (Technology & Creative Arts) can be dangerous. If you have any chance of bludging it then don't pick it. I picked Software D & D and Engineering in Year 11 and struggled with both, even though I was quite passionate about programming and engineering. I can only drop one since MX2 was provisional. Don't make the mistake I did!

For Maths, just start with Advanced, and drop down later. You should have a good understanding of how Advanced feels like first, unless you like absolutely suck. I know a guy who started out Advanced, dropped to Standard in Term 3 Year 11, missed out on heaps of content but still got 80%. You might regret doing Standard in case you find it too easy.

Either way, good luck.

My current electives are commerce and IST and they're okay for me, except I don't like them that much (chose them because I thought they would be helpful)... And I don't really know about music that much except for some theory back in year 8. But I generally like music
