In light of the recent COVID-19 crisis, NESA has stated that anyone with flu-like symptoms must not attend the exam. After a number of kids in my grade failed to turn up to some exams, this got me thinking: what happens if there are less external marks than internal ranks? Do two people get the same mark? What happens if only one person sits the exam? What happens if nobody sits the HSC exam?

No people or one person or maybe two people = group appeal, those attending will get scores assigned as usual.

3+ people = could be estimated marks for everyone else if results are not anomalous.

How will NESA estimate the marks? School-based assessments & trial exam?

Oh you mean for the 3+ case. They take the 3+ people, draw a quadratic fit and map the internal marks to moderated marks as usual.
