what is the name for these types of graphs
y= sqrt x+1
y=1 minus sqrt x minus 2
Make sure to use brackets!

No special name. Just function involving square root.

Yep you could call a function a relation as well though there are slight differences in meaning.
yeah very true, though graphs involving square roots are technically not functions (as they dont pass the vertical line test)

Unfortunately no. y= sqrt(x) is a function but y^2 = x is not a function

what is the name for these types of graphs

I would call the first one a concave right semiparabola and the second a concave left semiparabola.
