Who here lives out out home for uni because of distance?

I am particular interested in how much it would cost for living out of home, i havent lived out for like 3 years so i have no clue how much it will cost (it was when i was working so obviously had more money to spend and save so didnt track every dollar).

Can someone put a typical weeks budget? or rough estimate how much it will cost to live out? looking at anywhere near macquarie uni preferably chatswood, north ryde, macquarie park, chatswood, artarmon, pennant hills, have a budget of $350 (can use some of my savings if needed). Room is say $160/week? can someone help me give a rough estimate? pleaaaaase.

I am looking to have breakfast and dinner at home, but for lunch eat out 6 days of 7.

For $350 a week you should easily be able to live out of home.

I lived out of home on campus, but my rent was pretty cheap at $120 a week (UWS). Now they have closed down the campus I was at and built new residences at Parramatta which are quite expensive (probably would not be able to afford living there if I was in the same situation).

You should be able to live comfortably for $350 a week. Hell, I survived on $200 a week inc rent for 3 years. Eating out does chew a lot of your income up - i.e $10 a day = $60 a week, it adds up. Its much cheaper and probably better for you to make your own lunch at home and take it to uni or whereever.

I moved out, then moved back, but I'm moving out again soon.

It depends on whether your with someone or by yourself. Apart from rent, other bills will be split between you, so things get cheaper. If you buy food together as well, it decreases the bill because you can get stuff in bulk.

I live in Crows Nest and don't pay rent so that's a cost I can't comment on but I have no problems getting by on a budget of about $200 a week. I don't eat lunch out 6 days a week (maybe more like 3) but I go out every weekend and it's okay. Eating out chews a massive hole through the budget though :(.

Nah I plan for that - it's part of the 'having a life' bit of my budget :). It's getting home and remembering you've spent three times your daily food budget on lunch when you could have just made yourself a sandwich if you'd woken up 10 minutes earlier which really sucks :(.
